VideoCardz reports, citing testimonials that have already accessed the GEForce RTX 5060 TI, which is already scheduled for release next Wednesday, that the manufacturer is not actively distributing the 16GB variant and may even be trying to prevent partners from shipping an 8GB version under the NDA. 8GB was no longer enough in 2023
As a reminder: With the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti (review), which was re-released two years ago, again with 8GB and thus offered less memory than the RTX 3060 with 12GB in the previous generation, NVIDIA had released a 16GB variant in response to the worldwide acclaim, but only released it later and without its own review program. With a surcharge and few products on the market, it was unattractive for a long time, although it completely dissolved the 8GB bottleneck of the regular version. 8 GB is no longer enough in this class for 439 euros
Test title: RTX 4060 TI 8 GB in May 2023
With the GEFORCE RTX 5060 TI, there should now be a 16 GB, but again an 8 GB version. The criticism of the 8 GB is once again loud in advance, two years later, it is also more legitimate than ever. Because 8 GB was then and is no longer sufficient in full HD, including upscaling, to run all the games that the RTX 5060 TI 8 GB with its expected GPU performance could otherwise easily reproduce without any restrictions. With an older 8 GB graphics card, gamers would be just as badly positioned in these cases, but at a lower price.
The independent testing conclusion seems predetermined, as DLSS 4 doesn’t change this with the Transformer model or the multi-frame generation. It’s therefore entirely possible that Nvidia wants the 16GB version to be in the media spotlight, but doesn’t want to forgo the 8GB version as a mass-market model at a strategically lower price. In fact, this graphics card will also be fast enough for many of the most popular online games without significant graphics-only requirements; it would likely be the same.
No 8GB tests at first?
If NVIDIA doesn’t sample the 8GB version and doesn’t prohibit partners from supplying it, it should be difficult for independent testers to obtain such a model at first. The retailer—a reliable source for models that were off-the-record years ago—has recently shown great reluctance to risk lending a test model, even if absolute confidentiality was promised.
