Galax is known for its HOF series Pompous Overclocking . Now a photo of the upcoming GeForce RTX 5090 HOF OC Lab has appeared. The number of VRM phases increases from the already sumptuous 36 in the predecessor to its 38th

The board photo shows the voltage regulation phases (VRM) distributed on both sides of the GB202 GPU. Apparently 26 of them (13 per side) are responsible for GPU strain. Another 10 (5 per page) should be allocated to GDDR7 video memory, concludes the video card. Additionally, there are two more in the electrical connection area and there would be room for two more for the 40 to fill out.

A total of 36 phases (28 + 4 + 4) were used in the GEFORCE RTX 4090 HOF. It would also be conceivable that there was a 28+8+2 design for the successor. However, technical details are not yet available. It’s still an engineering sample anyway.

The drop speaks of difficult overclocking attempts and that the backplate and the slot cover had to be redesigned again. However, none of them can be seen in the photo. A BIOS switch for 1-click OC can be identified for this.

In addition to the famous Power 12VHPWR connection, the white card also has space for a second, which is not used, at least in this version. In fact, two of connections were used in the Galax RTX 4090 HOF, so this would also be expected for the final successor.

These graphics cards are designed for extreme overclocking, where much higher GPU frequencies and voltages want to be achieved with significantly increased power requirements. Typically, liquid nitrogen is then used as a coolant for recording attempts.

First recordings with the RTX 5090

It remains to be seen how well the Blackwell GPU will overclock on the RTX 5090 HOF. Safedisk Overclocking recently set various new world records on an RTX 5090. Its highest GPU cycle was 3.48 GHz.
