GMX Freephone: other restrictions on the free mobile phone tariff 36 comments

The free ESIM mobile phone contracts with a data volume of 3 GB, SMS and the telephone flat rate, GMX Freephone, which started with a lot of stimulus, adapts its conditions again, so that it actually only remains with restrictions.
2. Change based on automatic data
GMX had adjusted the mobile telephone tariff which started in November exclusively via the GMX application a few weeks ago that an automatic is no longer deactivated but activated. Accordingly, after consuming the inclusive data volume of 3 GB, 1 GB data packages are automatically reserved up to three times a month for 1.99 euros. Only then does speed throttling apply and there are no new auto-reservation data packages. Although this function can also be easily deactivated for new customers in the settings, this is not possible under the changed conditions.
Only free when using the GMX Mail app
For new customers, GMX Freephone is only free after the first 12 months if you open and use the GMX email app at least 10 days a month, i.e. call new emails in the inbox. If you do not open the app at least 10 days per month, a monthly base fee of 2.99 euros is incurred, as is now the case in the small print on the website. During the first year, however, there are no base fees regardless of app usage. If you’re not actively using GMX as your email provider, very few Frephone users have to remember the app every month after the first year is over.
The Freephone ESIM 3GB GMX mobile phone tariff is definitely free as long as you actively use the GMX Mail app on at least 10 days per month (active use means updating the GMX inbox).
More precisely: in the first 12 months the base fee is always €0, after which a monthly base fee of €2.99 is only calculated in the respective contract months, in which the GMX Mail app does not or is not active in less than 10 days has been used.

No adjustments for existing customers
The changed pricing conditions initially apply exclusively to new customers, existing customers are not yet affected. The conditions valid for the conclusion of the contract continue to apply. It is still open if or when GMX has also adjusted the contract for existing existing customers must also open the GMX email app and search for an email from GMX.
