Google Smartphone: Pixel 10 Gets a Third Camera 43 comments
Google will likely give the Pixel 10, expected in the summer, one more camera than the current Pixel 9. This also applies to the Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL.
A Third Camera for the Pixel 10
So far, Google has been saying three cameras for its Pro smartphones, two for the regular model. As Steve Hemmerzener’s CAD renders for Android are now making headlines, Google will also give three cameras to its cheaper smartphone this year. The current Pixel 9 has lenses for wide-angle and ultrawide-angle recordings, but the smartphone lacks the telephoto lens of the more expensive variants. So the Google Pixel 10 should look like
With expected dimensions of 152.8 × 72.0 × 8.6 mm, the smartphone would be as large as the current model, with an additional 3.4 mm to be added for the camera. The OLED display would have an unchanged size of 6.3 inches.
Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro
On the other hand, virtually no optical changes can be expected for the Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL. According to Android Headlines, the smaller Pixel 10 Pro has the same dimensions as the Pixel 10, so the protective covers of the two variants should be swapped. Unlike the Pixel 10, the metal frame that runs around the smartphone should be crafted in a sleek, matte finish. The Pixel 10 Pro XL’s design is also known, which, with the exception of a minimal change in height (0.1 mm), is identical to its predecessor.
TSMC-made Tensor G5
It’s therefore more exciting to see what Google is changing under the hood and what can be achieved with the new smartphones via software. Rumors suggested a more tailored custom chip was already in the pipeline for the Pixel 9 series. The SOC, developed under the codename “Laguna” and for the first time at TSMC instead of Samsung, is not expected to be ready until this year’s Pixel 10 series.
Five instead of three performance cores for the CPU, which are expected to be the ARM Cortex-A725 instead of the A720, are expected to be in the Tensor G5. At the top, a Cortex-X4 should continue to serve as the top-tier core, and two instead of four Cortex-A520s are expected at the bottom. The GPU is expected to bring a surprising change to the Imagination technologies from the supplier PowerVR, which is expected to contribute its IMG-DXT GPU, including hardware ray tracing.
