A new HomePod with a screen, which allows you to control more smart home and music tasks via touch, has been a constant topic in rumors since 2021. According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the new Siri speaker will only appear at the end of 2025 and not at the end of 2024, as he himself had previously speculated.
Postponement due to software
As a result, Apple is said to have once again postponed the introduction of the new HomePod with integrated display, so an earlier version was planned. The smart speaker, initially expected in 2024, is now expected to appear no earlier than the third quarter of 2025, after Apple’s WWDC that same year, according to Ming-Chi Kuo. This delay is explained by software development difficulties and not by hardware problems.
A18 SoC for Apple Intelligence
According to Kuo, the new HomePod will be equipped with an A18 processor and a 6-7 inch display that supports Apple’s AI-based features from Apple Intelligence. This would represent a significant expansion compared to previous models, which until now mainly focused on audio quality and smart home control via voice, but which mostly had to struggle with an ineffective digital assistant in the form of Siri.
Apple focuses more on smart home
Rumors of a HomePod with a screen have been circulating since 2021. According to previous reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is working on different variants of the device, including a model with an iPad-like screen as well as a HomePod with a screen. on a robotic arm. Along with the new HomePod variant, Apple is expected to once again focus more on the smart home sector. As a result, Apple is also reportedly working on its own smart home hub, which would be reminiscent of the iMac G4 design with a hemispherical base element. Until now, other Apple devices such as the Apple TV or HomePod performed smart home tasks in parallel.
Gurman previously reported that an announcement and launch of these products before 2025 was very unlikely. It’s likely that Apple has tried different models that have appeared in rumors over the years, but will ultimately only release one variant.
HomePod by BYD
Apple is rumored to have chosen Tianma Microelectronics as the exclusive supplier of the display and BYD Electronics as the sole manufacturing service provider for the production of the new HomePod. Analysts predict a relatively low production volume of around 500,000 units for the second half of 2025. BYD already produces around a third of Apple’s iPads.
Apple Wi-Fi Camera
Additionally, Ming-Chi Kuo maintains his assessment that Apple will introduce a wireless surveillance camera in 2026 that will be specifically designed to work with the new HomePod.
