An IPS black monitor offers deeper blacks and more contrast than traditional IPS displays. While the IPS Black option was previously available with a maximum of 120 Hz, HP is now raising the bar: the Omen 27qs G2 combines IPS Black with a contrast of 2000:1 with a high frequency of 280 Hz.
IPS Black with 280 Hz
Conventional IPS panels for monitors have a typical contrast ratio of 1000:1, with IPS Black it is twice as large at 2000:1 thanks to the lower black value and is therefore closer to VA panels, which often have 3000:1. Additionally, dark content should appear less distorted when viewed from the side, known as “IPS Glow.”
A few years ago, IPS Black debuted in desktop monitors at 60 Hz. The first IPS Black monitors at 120 Hz followed later.
With the Omen 27qs G2, HP is now launching the first true gaming monitor with IPS Black and 280 Hz on the market. The 27-inch monitor delivers 2,560 × 1,440 pixels on 27 inches and therefore 109 ppi. Compared to the first generation Omen 27qs, IPS Black and the refresh rate increased from 240 Hz to 280 Hz are the main innovations.

More G2 models with more Hertz
HP has also accelerated the G2 generation Omen 27q (WQHD) and Omen 27 (FHD) from 165 Hz to 180 Hz. The same goes for the Omen 34c G2 (UWQHD), which now also offers 180 Hz The latter stands out with a curved VA panel.
