With “Return to Metroidvania,” there’s a new humble bundle, this time offering a slightly more unique take on the Metroidvania genre. The eight titles also have one thing in common: they all have at least a “very positive” rating.

The following games are included in the humble bundle:

Isletsberserk Boy, Biogunshantae and the Seven Sirens, Talon: Tears of the Earth, Monster Sanctuary, Gato Robotorme

All titles are so-called 2D or 2.5D platformers, which otherwise differ considerably in their design and setting. The number of ratings also varies greatly. While Monster Sanctuary has over 9,200 reviews, Berserk Boy only has 265. The island was even given away in the store last year and boasts an “overwhelmingly positive” rating—with around 1,250 reviews.

Metroidvania?

The term metroidvania refers to the two eponymous titles “Metroid” by Nintendo and “Castlevania” by Konami. Representatives of the genre are primarily characterized by an open game world that is explored throughout the game. Players often collect new skills or items that allow them to enter previously inaccessible areas. The boundaries with other genres such as Jump ‘n’ Run, role-playing games, and action adventures are sometimes blurred.

Price and Availability

The “Return to Metroidvania” bundle is still available until May 8th. As usual, all eight games are available in the Humble Bundle store and cost at least €12.30 together.

As always, a portion of the proceeds goes to a non-profit organization. In this case, for the Californian non-profit organization “Cold Effect,” CO2 reduction projects are moving forward.
