As Bloomberg reports in an article, the company has now contacted the government with a new offer of $100 million. The amount must be spent nationally within two years.
However, outsiders are unclear where the $100 million will initially go. The term “investment” hides many possibilities, such as allowing money to flow into research or simply producing iPhone parts in Indonesia, which the article also highlights.
New offer not yet accepted
So far, the ministry has not accepted the offer, so the sales ban is still in effect. As described by Bloomberg, the Ministry of Industry has a new request after receiving the Apple offer requested: The group should focus more on research and development in its investments.
The government therefore wants more development laboratories rather than more production workshops. It remains unclear whether the iPhone maker will comply, as neither Indonesia told Bloomberg. Apple provided a statement upon request.
