Leisure Suit Larry: Slippery Adventure Classics to Leave Steam

The older parts of the Leisure Suit Larry slippery adventure series will no longer be available on Steam. Publisher Assemble Entertainment announced this without giving any reasons. Expired licenses are suspected. The two younger parts remain.

Protagonist Larry Laffer has been searching for the love of his life in the Leisure Suit Larry Adventure series since 1987. Later, his nephew took over the lewd pursuit in point-and-click adventures with sometimes revealing women.

The rights to the series, originally developed by Sierra, were later adopted by Codemasters. At the end of 2017, the brand was licensed by German publisher Assemble Entertainment. The news released on Steam at the end of April comes from the fact that the older classics of the “Bald” series will be leaving the Steam store and will no longer be available for purchase there. The following titles are affected:

Lawsuit Larry – Magna Cum Laude Uncut and Uncensored 7 – Love for Sailing

Those who already own the on Steam have to worry about, as they should continue to be playable.

The two more recent installments, “Leisure Suit Larry – Wet Dreams Don’t Dry” and “Leisure Suit Larry – Dreams Wet Dry Twice,” should continue to be offered on Steam.

Speculation on the Cause

The announcement doesn’t provide any information as to why sales are being fixed on Steam. However, it is believed that there are licensing reasons for this. Phil Salvador of the Video Game History Foundation suspects in an old thread on the Steam forum that the licenses for the Steam versions were not renewed when EA Codemasters took over. In his opinion, the GOG versions should be preserved.
