The 4th generation of LG displays should be brighter and more efficient. It starts with the technology of the TV television of the parent company LG. New panels will only be introduced for the smaller monitorm market later. Now there is a reference to the first model.
LG speaks in the 4th generation of OLED displays of “Tandem RGB primary”. Instead of three layers, there are now four by another level with blue OLEDs. This increases the brightness and efficiency, although on MicroLinsales (MLA) is now distributed again.
Information on the 1. 4th gene panel for monitors
The website Flat Panels HD now reports information on the manufacturer of the first OLED panel of the 4th generation for the Monitor area. It should be a 27-inch panel with WQHD resolution, i.e. 2,560 × 1,440 pixels in 16: 9 format. At the top, the brightness should reach 1,500 cd / m² thanks to the new technology. However, this only applies to a very small image area of 1.5%. However, high 335 CD / m² should also be possible for OLED monitors across the entire scene.
For comparison: For the current 27gx790a ultrageaire with WQHD and 27 inches (3rd generation OLED with MLA), LG mentions a brightness of 275 cd / m² (full screen) and up to 1300 CD / m² (peak).
Improved color display?
The report also means that the new OLED panel also offers a “significantly better color display”. LG Display has not yet specified this. The current generation stands at 98.5% of the DCI P3 color scale. Full coverage would at least be conceivable with the new generation.
Mass production at some point this year
For the time being, however, it remains to be seen when the first monitors will be released with LG’s 4th generation OLED display. Series production is planned for 2025, but that much is certain. In theory, however, this could also mean availability in 2026 at the end of 2025.
After the 27-inch debut, other sizes can be expected: LG Tarpaulins “its main RGB tandem technology is gradually applying its gaming OLED range”, the report ends with these words.
First, the large 5K panels come
Before the 4th generation. Oled comes to monitors, there will be more with the 3rd generation. LG recently announced the market launch of the first OLED monitors with 5K resolution. The 45″ 45GX950A and 45GX990A models are expected to offer 5,120 × 2,160 pixels with OLED technology for the first time in April 2025.
