With the Edge power supplies, Lian Li already power supplies in its range that make cabling in dual-chamber cases more accessible. The Edge Gold power supply series now allows the USB hub to be flexibly positioned using a magnet and adds PWM fan connections.

Freely positionable stroke with magnetic lock

On the front of the power supply there are again four USB 2.0 connectors, arranged like a hub. However, unlike the Edge, the Edge Gold is a slide-out board with a magnetic lock, which has also been expanded to include six PWM fan connections.

The installation position is left to the user’s choice. It can either operate the hub centrally on the power supply via its edge connector or place it anywhere in the system, with the hub then having to be powered via an 8-pin PCIe cable. In this case, a dedicated step-down converter in the hub will probably generate the 5 volts from the USB ports so that the specified maximum of 0.5 A per socket can be properly supplied.

The hub can be connected to the motherboard via an internal USB 2.0 connector or a USB Type A connector (external).

The dust filter is also magnetic

The dust filter also has a magnetic lock and can therefore be removed for maintenance or cleaning. However, extreme caution should always be exercised, as the capacitors in the power supply can be charged to potentially fatal voltages even after the mains voltage has been switched off.

Edge Gold with longer cables

Compared to “Edge”, “Edge Gold” also extends the cables up to 750 mm and is now also compatible with conventional ATX cases. The effectiveness is rated gold by the certification bodies 80Plus, Cybenetics and PPLP.INFO. Cybenetics Platinum is only specified for the EG1000G and EG1200G models. The 120mm fan in the power supply is turned off at low load (semi-passive mode).

Already available in the USA

The series is divided into four power classes with 750 W, 850 W, 1000 W and 1200 W – but the USB hub is only included in the two largest versions. Except for the 750W model, there is also an optional white finish. US retailer Newegg already offers the power supplies for $99.99, $119.99, $154.99 and $179.99 (excluding sales tax). The warranty period is ten years for the power supply and two years for the hub.

Lian Li has not yet given prices or dates for Germany.
