The world’s leading supplier of e-paper, E-INK, has announced the successful development of a four-particle color system with an extended temperature range. This should be particularly suitable for use in digital out-of-home (DOOH) advertising on screens in public spaces.
In the press release, the company, which specializes in digital ink, does not provide specific information on the number of colors that can be displayed. However, according to the description, the new display could be a further development of the Advanced Color E-paper Platform (ACEP) presented in 2016, which has its current evolution with “Gallery Plus.” This platform also uses the four basic colors of cyan, magenta, yellow, and white to display up to 60,000 colors using the principle of subtractive color mixing. At the time, E-INK also called it a “complete e-paper module.” Low power consumption brings many benefits.
The new technology supports a temperature range of -20 to 65 degrees Celsius during operation, significantly expanding the operating range compared to previous EPAPER panels. Power consumption remains very low, as energy, with the exception of any lighting, is only required when content is being changed. Due to the possible operation with solar power, CO₂ emissions could also be further reduced. An additional advantage over conventional LCD or LED solutions is the low heat emission, which eliminates the need for elaborate cooling systems and aims to enable more economical use of outdoor signs. E-Link Thinks Very Well
The areas outside the e-book reader are expanded
With the new platform, E-Link continues to expand its business beyond the e-book reader domain, in which the company’s panels founded in 1997 are now the standard. Meanwhile, its advertisements can also be found in the inpatient trade, for example in the form of advertising screens or as electronic shelf labels (Electronic Shelf Labels-ESL), based on the Spectra platform presented in 2013. These solutions also offer great savings potential compared to conventional paper labels in terms of costs and emissions.
