Memoriapolis: The Organic Era Building Game Releases Early Access 20 comments
The historical building game Memoriapolis will be released on April 30, 2025, in version 1.0 on Steam. After approximately eight months of Early Access, the French studio 17h is completing development with a visual overhaul and the fourth era—the Age of Enlightenment. The price is increased upon release.
Urban planning spanning over 2,500 years and without a raster system
Memoriapolis combines a classic urban development strategy with long-term development across four eras: Antiquity, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the Enlightenment. Each phase presents not only architectural and technological changes, but also social challenges and political structures. The goal of the game is to preserve your own dynasty throughout the era.
A central feature of the game is organic growth. Streets and buildings are created dynamically, based on population behavior and player decisions, and without a predetermined grid. According to the developers, this system was developed in collaboration with a city planner and is intended to enable more realistic urban development. Among other things, it takes into account topography, the range of supply patterns, and population movement—it creates tramp paths, for example, which develop into permanent roads with increasing use. Buildings automatically adapt to the terrain and neighboring structures, which should enable the design of vibrant neighborhoods.

With version 1.0, the game also receives a visual overhaul: new building models, improved lighting, and a modernized user interface should deepen the game’s atmosphere. The design of previous eras has also been revised to ensure a more consistent look throughout the era. According to the developer, many of these adjustments are based on community feedback.
Enlightenment as a Finale and a Challenge
With the new, fourth era, the game’s focus is expected to change. External factions will increasingly attempt to gain influence in the city. Players must act diplomatically, establish alliances, and ensure the survival of their dynasty, the developers announce. At the same time, the requirements for resource management, production logistics, and trade networks will increase.
Development, Response, and Future
Since the start of the Early Access phase in summer 2024, Memoriapolis has landed on the wishlists of over 400,000 Steam users, according to the developers. New eras, buildings, events, and management systems have been integrated into regular updates. Ratings are mostly positive, with an 80% approval rating on Steam.
Memoriapolis currently costs €24.50. With the end of Early Access, however, the price is set to increase, as the developers have now announced—it’s unclear how high. However, additional content is also planned after the official release, including additional buildings, faction mechanics, and extended modding support.
