Western Digital plenty of storage space in the smallest form factor with SanDisk Extreme Pro series memory cards, now available as 2TB microSD or SD cards. The manufacturer’s first microSD Express cards offer less storage space. storage but higher transfer rates.

SanDisk 2TB SD Cards Now Available

Initially announced for the summer, the market launch of SD and microSD cards with the highest storage capacity in the industry, 2 TB, is only taking place now. The SanDisk Extreme Pro 2TB achieves sequential transfer rates of up to 250 MB/s read and 150 MB/s write in both formats. However, this does not apply across the board, as this service is only possible via the manufacturer’s card readers. Otherwise, the throughput is limited to the maximum of the UHS-I interface, i.e. 104 MB/s. The editorial team recently published a report on this subject which also affects other manufacturers.

Fast microSD cards in testing: If you expect 180MB/s*, but there’s a footnote

In the manufacturer’s store, the SanDisk Extreme Pro SD 2 TB costs an impressive 370 euros, but in free trade the prices are slightly undercut. The smaller SanDisk Extreme Pro microSD 2TB is available for 320 euros.

Partner Kioxia had already presented the world’s first 2TB microSD card in December. SanDisk also offers the SanDisk Extreme microSD 2TB without “Pro”, which is significantly cheaper at 280 euros with slightly lower transfer rates of 240/ 140 MB/s.

More speed with microSD Express

The (micro)SD Express standard allows significantly higher transfer rates. SanDisk’s first Express microSD cards are now available with storage capacities of 128 GB for 50 euros and 256 GB for 66 euros. The photos already show a later version with 512 GB, but no prices are available yet.

If you’re using a device that already supports SD Express, memory cards should read at a maximum speed of 880 MB/s and write at 650 MB/s.

SD Express is also backward compatible with UHS-I and UHS-II devices. However, the speed is then limited to the UHS-I level of 104 MB/s.
