MIDI-TOWER Z10 DS: Zalman discovers the gateway to a 15.6″ giant screen 51 Comments

Zalman rediscovered the gateway to the housing project. The manufacturer claims you’re looking at a giant 15.6″ display. However, it can also be removed and used separately—the Z10 DS then becomes a normal MIDI tower.
The unique thing about the concept: the display with a 16:9 aspect ratio and 1080p resolution is a normal display and is treated as such. It receives image signals via a mini HDMI on the HDMI cable that Zalman places behind the Z10 DS’s front panel, and a USB-CAA cable is used for power supply.
Once connected, the individually listed ZM-MF156 display module is treated as a second monitor—what is displayed can therefore be determined freely and independently of the manufacturer’s software limitations. Accordingly, Zalman shows the housing diagonally towards the monitor and with the front panel half-open, which creates a true dual monitor setup.
If the Z10 DS is used with a normal front panel, the 367 x 768 screen 220 x 27 mm, it can be easily placed on a desk using the included stand. However, the datasheet cannot be found, which screen technology is used.

Behind it, a standard midi tower
At the back, it’s a fairly simple MIDI tower with plenty of space. Cooler and graphics cards can be used in virtually any size, while overhead expansion cards support a holder. Alternatively, the GPU can be rotated 90 degrees, for which three slots are available. However, the bracket and riser cable must be purchased separately. The hard drives are housed in two 2.5″ brackets behind the main board, while another bracket with an insert accommodates two 2.5″/3.5″ HDDs in front of the power supply.
For cooling, the Z10 DS relies on installation locations behind the front, on the side panel, the cover, and the power supply tunnel. Zalman provides three 120mm fans. At the rear, there is an Argb fan with a 3-pin connection, i.e., without PWM control, which runs at 1,100 rpm. Behind the front, there are two unlit 120mm fans with 1,200 rpm. Here, too, regulation is via the operating voltage. Dust filters can be found on the bottom and at the top of the tower.
Available in stores
The Zalman Z10 DS can already be purchased on the free market for around 220 euros. The regular Z10 is currently just under 90 euros, but it’s not a direct comparison: the chassis itself is identical, there are more fans and a different front end.
