Smart handhelds are currently very popular with retro console makers. After Retroid unveiled the Pocket Mini V2 last week, Miyoo is now following suit and planning a mini version of its Flip console.
Small and practical
So far, Miyoo has not provided any concrete information on the size of the new handheld. If the shrink factor fails as suspected, the mini version could be opened to the dimensions of the larger model: 15.5 × 8 × 1.5 cm and 8.4 × 8.1 × 2.5 cm when closed, with an identical aspect ratio on a base area of approximately 10.25 × 5.5 cm. This would be one of the smallest mini consoles available. Hardware clearly brought forward
According to Miyoo, the hardware basis of the new Mini Flip will not be the same as the original Flip, but the Miyoo Mini V4. Instead of a quad-core ROCK RK3566 chip with a maximum clock speed of 1.8 GHz, a dual-core processor with a clock speed of 1.2 GHz, which has not been further detailed, is running in the Mini Flip, which has not been further detailed so far. While the larger model was equipped with 1 GB of RAM, the short-term memory of the Mini Flip has also been reduced to 128 MB. The internal game memory is still implemented via an SD card. If the V4 is also used in the display, interested buyers can expect a 2.8-inch color screen, which dissolves into 640 x 480 pixels. At 1,900 mAh, the battery is significantly smaller compared to the 3,000 mAh of the original.
The review excludes some games.
According to initial information, buyers of the Mini Flip will have to do without the two joysticks at the bottom of the housing. This clearly limits the possible games: while emulation up to Game Boy Advance or similar consoles can be implemented, games from the PlayStation 1 or PlayStation Portable, which also support many other handhelds, are expected to remain on the platform.
Market launch and price not yet known
Miyoo has not yet announced when exactly and at what price the Mini Flip will be available.
