App-based mobile provider Fraenk is apparently increasing the download speed of its mobile phone tariffs on Deutsche Telekom’s 5G network by up to 50 Mbit/s, while a maximum of 25 Mbit/s is still officially propose.
50 instead of 25 Mbit/s download
In the product information sheet for the mobile phone tariff (PDF), Fraenk continues to talk about 25 Mbit/s for downloading, but after several users recently reported that they were able to get a faster download fast speeds of up to 50 Mbit/s, Techconseil was now able to do this with several of its own Confirm Fraenk devices and SIM cards. All of them no longer reach a maximum of 25 Mbit/s on the Deutsche Telekom network in Berlin, but up to 50 Mbit/s.
An official announcement regarding the price change so that all new and existing customers are guaranteed 50 Mbps instead of 25 Mbps is still pending, but could come soon.
Most recently, Fraenk users got the new in-app option to convert their smartphone’s SIM card to eSIM and restore a deleted eSIM. In addition, Fraenk introduced the SEPA direct debit system, so that mobile phone rates no longer have to be billed via PayPal.
Reaction to Congstar?
The move to 50 Mbit/s could also be a reaction to Congstar. Congstar had doubled its 5G speeds on October 29 this year. The new 5G100 option allows speeds of up to 100 Mbit/s and replaces the old 5G50 option with a maximum of 50 Mbit/s.
Fraenk only upgraded from LTE to 5G in February this year, but without adjusting the speed.
Two pricing options at 10 and 15 euros
fraenk currently offers two pricing options, 12 GB for 10 euros per month and 22 GB for 15 euros per month, each including a telephone and SMS package as well as EU roaming and free number portability. With a friend code, you also benefit from an additional 3 GB per month permanently in both tariffs.
Previously, Fraenk had increased from 7 GB to 10 GB in December 2023. At that time, for an additional 5 euros, there was only 7 GB of additional data volume in the app.
Updated November 5, 2024 at 7:09 p.m.
In Fraenk’s Network FAQ it is stated that from November 7, 50 Mbit/s for downloads and 25 Mbit/s for uploads will apply to all customers. However, for most users, the fastest speed appears to have already been enabled.
You will be able to surf and call on the best Telekom network with 5G50 from November 7, 2024. This means that you will be able to use a download speed of 50 Mbit/s and an upload speed of 25 Mbit/s.
