The topic of sustainability is becoming increasingly important and has long been a topic in the PC hardware industry. Logitech has some positive things to report: the peripheral manufacturer wants to switch entirely to paper packaging and thus save 660 tons of plastic per year. This goal is already very close.
In a press release, Logitech is announcing its intention to completely switch from plastic packaging to paper packaging. Within the “global product portfolio,” “disposable plastic packaging is to be almost completely eliminated,” the company explains. However, the wording in this press release is somewhat vague, as the communication either mentions “significant progress in eliminating plastic hard-shell packaging in its well-known mouse categories” or refers to a “switch to paper packaging solutions for the most important product categories.” This, in turn, does not sound like the entire portfolio.
Hard-shell packaging by the end of 2025
At least, Logitech aims to save around 660 tons of plastic per year through the “almost complete elimination of plastic hard-shell packaging” and reduce CO2 emissions by around 6,000 tons.
The new paper packaging will be rolled out globally by the end of 2025. The switch is being phased in through retail and will be extended “to several tens of millions of products.”
Saying goodbye to plastic hard shell packaging is an important step towards our goal of completely banishing disposable plastics from our wallet. This project is now approximately 90% complete and represents our largest packaging project to date

As part of the “Design for Sustainability” initiative, Logitech has already “implemented packaging solutions with minimal environmental impacts”. These include guidelines for disposable plastics and a paper packaging program. Additionally, “plastic removal films in the gaming area (Logitech G) have been abolished and recyclable alternatives such as paper fiber hangers or a wood fiber bag have been introduced.”
An advertising video from 2024 shows what measures with the hardware and design of the Logitech G A10 gaming headset and its packaging have been used to reduce the CO2 footprint.
Other hardware manufacturers are also thinking about
Many other manufacturers are also paying more attention to the environment and the sustainability of their products. For example, Razer introduced the first gaming mice with Ecologo certification three years ago. For example, Dell relies on “100% recycled or renewable material packaging” and sometimes uses prepared materials in the product. Fan manufacturer Arctic has boasted that it has been a “100% CO2 neutral company” since 2011.
