MX Authenticity Check: Arctic Takes a Stand Against Fake Thermal Pastes
“Arctic MX pastes have been classics on the market for almost two decades and are among the most popular and best-selling pastes worldwide. Given that counterfeits are still in circulation, Arctic has developed a system to confirm the authenticity of MX pastes,” explains the cooling specialist today. In fact, the manufacturer‘s thermal pastes have been very popular for years due to their good price-performance ratio. The new MX-6 is currently Amazon‘s bestseller.
This is how the MX Authenticity Check works.
Even though the pastes cost only a few euros, according to Arctic, they are becoming increasingly fake. Therefore, the company has now introduced an authenticity test, the “MX Authenticity Check.” From now on, a partially hidden QR code is located on the packaging of genuine MX pastes. Similar to a scratch, this must first be completely scratched off in order to scan it. The transmitted URL should then lead to the website x.arctic.de, where the numeric code next to the QR code must finally be entered to verify the thermal paste.
In the future, customers should pay attention to whether there is a QR code on the packaging. If it’s already fully visible, can’t be scanned, or doesn’t lead to an official Arctic website, then it’s most likely a fake.
The authenticity test is apparently only offered for the MX-4 and MX-6; at least, only these two series are listed on the MX authenticity verification website. The older MX-2 is also sold. The MX-5, which was introduced in the meantime, was discontinued due to quality defects.
