After Asus has already presented ten new motherboards and ASRock 16, Gigabyte is now also presenting its new boards based on the cheaper B850 and B840 chipsets for the AM5 socket. In total, 13 new Gigabyte cards are hitting the market.
Six times ATX – “AI TOP” replaces Aorus at the top
Six of the new cards are in ATX format. Gigabyte has chosen a new series for the top model, because the B850 AI TOP is even ahead of both Aorus motherboards in terms of equipment and features. Compared to these, the AI TOP offers better power, has one more M.2 slot than PCIe 5.0, offers more rear ports, and can even have two 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports.
The Aorus motherboard in question is the B850 Aorus Elite Wifi7, available in both dark and white (ICE) versions – other than that the boards are identical. Below that are the B850 Gaming X Wifi6E, B850 Eagle Wifi6E and B850 Gaming Wifi6.
Entry level in the form of B840 is only available in mATX
In the Micro-ATX form factor, the B850M Aorus Elite Wifi6E ICE is the top-of-the-line model – Gigabyte doesn’t list an identical sibling in a dark color at this point. If you want a black and gray motherboard instead, you should go with a slightly weaker board with the B850M Gaming X Wifi6E. Below are the cheapest cards in the range: The B850M DS3H and B850M D3HP are already visually recognizable as entry-level options.
However, the combination of dark design, Aorus branding and mATX is still available – but only with the even more stripped-down B840 chipset, which significantly reduces the PCIe connection of the processor. Here, the B840M Aorus Elite Wifi6E is ahead of its only sibling, the B840M Eagle Wifi6, in the pecking order. It remains to be seen why Gigabyte equips its gaming brand Aorus with this chipset, but on the other hand a poorly equipped entry-level board gets the better B850.
Only one Mini-ITX board completes the portfolio
In the end, there is only one new Gigabyte board to choose from for real SFF versions: the B850I Aorus Pro is the only Mini-ITX motherboard that completes the portfolio. In terms of features, the smallest version lives up to its name, but it is currently the most expensive of the motherboards listed so far.

Prices and availability
The price comparison currently shows six models available, all of which are listed as in stock. The price range extends from around €153 for the B850M DS3H to just under €296 for the B850I Aorus Elite. Detailed information and specifications for each board can be found on the manufacturer’s website.
