Dell promises even deeper black than with “IPS Black” with “Enhanced IPS Black”. The two 4K monitors U2725QE and U3225QE are supposed to offer an approximately 50% higher contrast ratio of 3,000:1, which only VA could previously achieve. A new OLED with surround sound will also be presented.

First monitors with IPS Black 2.0

With “IPS Black”, the first monitors with an IPS panel that achieves a contrast ratio twice as high as usual will be released at the end of 2023: instead of 1,000:1, it is 2,000:1. A deeper black is added.

Now comes a further optimization of the display technology with “Enhanced IPS Black” or “IPS Black 2.0”. Compared to conventional IPS displays, a 47% deeper black is possible. The contrast ratio is tripled to 3,000:1.

Ahead of , Techastuce was able to get its first impressions of Enhanced IPS Black. The difference to a conventional IPS panel is clearly visible. But if you were to place an OLED monitor next to it, IPS Black would once again be significantly inferior.

Once again, Dell is the first to buy the technology and is presenting two UltraSharp series monitors that use IPS Black 2.0 at CES 2025. These are the 27-inch U2725QE and the 32-inch U3225QE.

Both models have a resolution of 3,840 × 2,160 pixels in 16.9 format and operate with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The color representation should cover 99 percent of DCI-P3 as well as 100 percent of sRGB and Rec709. The color difference is given by Delta E

Thunderbolt 4 offers a fast universal interface with a USB-C connector, which also allows power delivery of up to 140 watts. Thunderbolt is represented as an input and an output, which allows multiple monitors to be connected in series (daisy chain). The Ethernet port (RJ45) is also fast at 2.5 Gbps. A flip-up connector panel offers additional USB ports, including USB-C, for charging devices up to 15 watts.

OLED monitor with 3D spatial audio

OLED monitors can only smile wearily at the contrast ratio of IPS Black, as their contrast approaches infinity. Dell also introduced a new OLED monitor. The Dell 32 Plus 4K QD-OLED Monitor, aka S3225QC, is said to be the first QD-OLED monitor with 31.5 inches and AI-supported 3D spatial audio, the manufacturer announces. 3D Spatial Audio means virtualized spatial sound. The centrally placed infrared camera records the user’s movements. Sound is delivered specifically to each ear via beamforming. Output is via the built-in 5x5W speakers, which are also located in the wide bar at the bottom of the screen.

The monitor screen offers 3840 × 2160 pixels, 120 Hz and a response time of 0.03 ms along with 99% DCI-P3. FreeSync Premium and Dolby Vision are supported. Certification to DisplayHDR True Black 400 is available.

Ports include USB-C with 90 watts of power as well as the aforementioned pop-up panel including USB-C with 15 watts.

The QD-OLED S3225QC monitor will only go on sale in May, but then worldwide. Its price is $799.99.
