A mini-LED backlight ensures particularly high brightness and contrast on LCD displays. In the MPG 274URDFW E16M from MSI, this extends over 1,152 zones. According to the DisplayHDR 1000 certification, a brightness of at least 1,000 cd/m² is possible in some places.

In front of it is an IPS panel with a native resolution of 3,840 × 2,160 pixels and therefore around 166 ppi at 27 inches. The panel, called “Rapid IPS”, has a dual-mode function. It can operate at native resolution up to 160 Hz or switch to 1,920 × 1,080 with 320 Hz at the push of a button. The response time is given as 0.5 ms (GtG).

The MPG 274URDFW E16M offers, among other things, DisplayPort 1.4a, HDMI 2.1 and USB-C with DP alt mode. An image shows the white back of the case.

The highest refresh rate is once again the focus of the MPG 242R X60N, as it can boast a whopping 600 Hz. MSI uses a TN panel (“Rapid TN”), specified with a response time of 0.5 ms (GtG) and offering 1,920 × 1,080 pixels. There is no option for a higher resolution here. Other features include DisplayHDR 400, FreeSync Premium, 98-watt USB-C, and KVM.

G-Sync Pulsar and Smart Monitor

MSI is also introducing the MPG 272QRF X36, its first monitor with G-Sync Pulsar support. Behind this is the technology presented by Nvidia a year ago, which allows the simultaneous use of G-Sync and Black Frame Insertion (BFI). G-Sync Pulsar no longer requires an expensive and noisy G-Sync module. The articles linked below provide additional background information on the topic.

The MPG 272QRF X36 is a 27-inch monitor with 2560 × 1440 pixels. The “Rapid IPS” panel is said to have a response time of 0.5 ms and a refresh rate of 360 Hz. DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1, and several USB-A jacks are available as connections.

The white MSI MD272UPSW can boast of functions like a Smart TV. This includes support for Google TV and Google Assistant as well as wireless display, including Google Cast. The smart monitor has an integrated processor and WLAN. However, with 4K UHD at only 60 Hz, the IPS monitor is not a full-fledged gaming model. Among the ports, DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0 and 65-watt USB-C are represented.

The PRO MP275QPDG provides much more power as its USB Power Delivery is a maximum of 98 watts via USB-C. A laptop can be charged and powered over Ethernet at the same time using just one cable, because the 27″ monitor also has a network connection. MSI speaks of a docking monitor, which also offers a KVM switch and the ability to connect multiple monitors in series Automatic change of image orientation is convenient when switching to portrait (swivel) mode. A webcam is integrated for video calls.

24 inches for travel

Portable monitors typically have a laptop panel of around 15 inches. MSI’s PRO MP242E E10 is significantly larger at 23.8 inches and is essentially the answer to the ASUS ZenScreen MB249C. MSI is still missing some details here, but you should expect an IPS panel with Full HD like Asus. With only around 10 watts of power consumption, the monitor is very economical and can be used on the go using an external battery.
