The Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order will also begin soon at Nintendo in Japan. There, the group had initially started a pre-registration, which, however, exceeded all internal expectations. Those interested in pre-ordering, you will have to wait longer. But the rush also seems to be high in Europe.
Nintendo apologizes for the delay
On Nintendo’s Japanese X account, the group informs all pre-order participants of the high demand for the Switch 2. Nintendo has already withdrawn many parts and consoles and has also increased production directly during the registrations. But the rush is too great, Nintendo continues, and a “considerable number” of Japanese customers will not receive a link to pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2 today. Users who receive access are selected by lottery. Nintendo apologizes for the delay and continues to work on expanding production.
2.2 million interested parties in Japan alone
According to official information, a total of 2.2 million Nintendo users have registered for pre-orders in Japan alone. However, the company doesn’t reveal the number of finished consoles Nintendo expects by June 5th, but it won’t be enough for everyone.
This means that the Japanese company’s domestic market is actually very high: according to the Versge, Switch 1 of 2017, only 360,000 units were sold in the entire month after its release in Japan. Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 officially don’t begin until today due to Trump tariffs in the US and Japan.
Very large crowds in Europe too.
In Europe, many stores and Nintendo began pre-orders on April 8th. French retailer FNAC has already received orders. Compared to Frandroid, FNAC provided an overview of pre-orders and spoke of an “incredible number of pre-orders” without specific figures. The price of the console and games, which has increased compared to the Switch 1, shouldn’t be a major obstacle; the Switch 2 is guaranteed, according to FNAC’s Charlotte Massicault, as measured by sales.
Pre-orders in Germany
In Germany, pre-orders could also be placed at MediaMarkt or Saturn, but the Switch 2 can no longer be pre-ordered; it is now available again via “pre-order.” If you want to pre-order from Nintendo yourself, you must have a Nintendo Switch Online Membership for more than two years, and no later than March 31, 2025, a few days before the Switch 2.
Nintendo may want to lower the requirements in the future as more consoles become available. As of that date, pre-sales of Switch 2 games, new upgrade packs, and amiibos in the My Nintendo store will also begin.
