Noctua Edition power supply: The Seasonic Prime TX-1600 is quieter with a brown fan 122 comments

The Austrian manufacturer Noctua, in cooperation with Seasonic, presents for the first time a power supply that is characterized by a particularly low noise level with the internal fan NF-A12x25. The Noctua edition was first presented this summer and is now available for 500 euros, essentially the recommended price of the base.
High quality fan for less noise
Since Noctua and Seasonic are “wholeheartedly committed to quality and performance,” the names of both manufacturers can be found in the model name Seasonic Prime TX-1600 Noctua Edition. In addition to the fan, the power supply also features the unmistakable Noctua colors. From a formerly honeycomb-shaped structure, the fan grille has been adapted to a shape with larger inlet segments.
Overall, the changes result in a massive reduction in the sound pressure level which, according to the “Cybenetics Lambda A++” certification, has been reduced from 44.3 dB(A) to 27.1 dB(A) at full load. Noctua itself only speaks of a reduction of 10 dB(A) at ambient temperatures up to 25°C. However, no difference is expected up to a part load of approximately 50 percent of rated power when using semi-passive fan control.
Seasonic’s top-of-the-range model with the latest technology
Other technical data corresponds to the base model of Seasonic, which is supposed to work extremely efficiently with 80Plus Titanium and Cybenetics Titanium. At the same time, it can buffer the maximum performance as required by the PCIe Gen5 specification. Following ATX 3.1, there is also the improved 12V 2×6 socket, of which the power supply provides two. In the basic series, this is currently only available with 2,200 watts; the rest of the series still offers the ATX 3.0 electrical equivalent with the first generation of the 12VHPWR connector.
The power supply is sold in the Noctua Amazon* store and in the CitX – Computer Information Technology GmbH online store. With a retail price of 500 euros, according to the price comparator, it is currently almost as expensive as the basic Seasonic model. The very long warranty period of 12 years also remains unchanged.
