Nothing: Phone (3A) focuses on better cameras 46 comments

A year after the phone (2A) (test), nothing follows today the phone (3A) and the phone (3A) Pro as a new series for MWC 2025. The manufacturer wants to offer better quality, especially with new cameras. The processor is also new that comes from Qualcomm. The starting price remains at a known level: 329 euros.
Offers for pre-orders
For the phone (3A), the advance sale at a price of 329 euros with 8 GB / 128 GB and 379 euros with 12 GB / 256 GB begins. Until availability a week later on March 11, O2 offers the small memory configuration including cover and 45 watt power supply, the larger variant with power supply and CMF by nothing. The (3A) Pro phone should be pre-ordered from March 11 for 459 euros before the regular sale on March 25 is planned. With this smartphone, the launch partner is on the one hand and the Nothing Ear (A) (test) (test), while O2 records a bundle of the (3A) Pro phone, Shell, Power Supply and CMF by nothing Watch Pro 2.
Smartphones with transparent design
The new Nothing smartphones are again visually characterized by the transparent design of the back, the plastic frame and the front with symmetrical screen edges. The (3A) phone offers nothing in white, black and limited in blue, the (3A) pro phone is exclusively in silver gray and black. Both smartphones come with an IP64 certification and are therefore slightly better protected against water than the predecessor (IP54). For the glass of the front and back, nothing relies on Chinese panda glass instead of gorilla glass from the USA.

On the back, buyers find the so-called glyphs interface from several LED segments that can be configured for notifications or simply used as a light for the camera. Three of them are now installed, the third lens serves as a more or less strong optical zoom depending on the model.
Zoom and even more zoom for cameras
Samsung’s GN9 image sensor, which delivers 50 MP at 1/1.57 inches, is available for the main camera (3A). Nothing combines the sensor with f/1.88 aperture, OIS and ice cream. For the ultra-wing angle camera, nothing takes a downgrade from 50 to 8 MP for cost reasons and in return installs a third camera with a focal length of 50 mm and therefore two optical magnifications compared to the main camera. There, nothing relies on the Samsung JN5 with 50 MP, F / 2.0 and ICE to be able to offer insane zoom with four times magnification via high resolution.

For the Phone (3A) Pro, Samsung with the GNJ is the supplier of the sensor, which is characterized by Dual Pixel technology, in which each pixel offers two photodiodes for automatic comparison on phase comparison (PDAF) and for color information, so that the light output is higher than with a sensor with the same size and resolution, but only Auto Classic focus phase comparison.
The sensor also offers 50 MP here, but it should offer better quality than the sensor of the phone (3A). The same is used as the second camera with 8 MP for ultra-wide angle photos as in the phone (3A) before there are larger differences in the telephoto lens. In the phone (3A) Pro, nothing installs a 3x-periscope zoom, in which the light is guided around the corner as with a periscope via a prism and several lenses, because in this way a higher focal length can be realized without the actually associated greater construction depth. 50 MP are provided via the 1/1.95-inch Sony Lytia 600 with OIS and glass, which this time allow a zoom in six times in the sensor. Qualcomm instead of MediaTek delivers the processor
The processing of the records is again in the image processor of a Qualcomm as part of the Snapdragon processor selected after MediaTek contributed the chip last year. Nothing has chosen the Snapdragon 7S Gen 3, a new addition from last summer, which is manufactured in the 4nm N4P process at TSMC. Four half-current ARM Cortex-A720 and A520 each side guarantee 20% more power compared to the Snapdragon 7S Gen 2, while the ADRENO-810 GPU is 40% faster according to Qualcomm. Nothing itself speaks of a 33% faster CPU and an 11% faster GPU compared to the phone’s MediaTek 7200 Dimensity (2A).
The battery leaves nothing at 5,000 mAh, but due to the more efficient processor, slightly longer terms can be expected. With 45 hours for phone calls, 22 hours of music, 26 hours of YouTube, 24 hours Instagram and 11 hours of gaming, the manufacturer advertises on both smartphones, which can be charged again with 45 watts. The amoled display still lights up
The AMOLED display gets an upgrade, which is a hint of 6.77 inches. However, the real innovation can be found in the increase in brightness, which is now 800 cd/m² as standard, from 1100 to 1300 cd/m² in outdoor mode and can reach 3000 instead of 1300 cd/m² at peak. In addition to HDR10 display in movies and series, this impacts the display of HDR photos, as Google’s Ultra HDR is also supported.
Nothing OS 3.1 with essential space and button
Google contributes Android 15, the Nothing supplemented by the current Nothing OS 3.1, for which Android updates and four years of security patches are to be made available. The operating system brings new animations, icons and fonts and for the first time also offers support for an ESIM in the (3A) Pro phone.
