Nvidia Blackwell: the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 would not be available at launch 23 comments
There is growing evidence from manufacturers and retailers that availability of the GeForce RTX 5090 and GeForce RTX 5080 will be low when they launch in late January. Misunderstandings in the exchange with Nvidia and delays due to the Chinese New Year are cited as possible causes.
At least that’s what the Benchlife site writes, which maintains contacts with graphics card manufacturers. According to their sources, there will be no significant stocks of new graphics cards on January 30, when sales of the GeForce RTX 5090 and GeForce RTX 5080 begin. On the one hand, this is attributed to “communication problems between NVIDIA and AIC partners.” On the other hand, Chinese New Year celebrations are also expected to cause delays. However, we should expect an improvement in supply during February. Due to the circumstances, the GeForce RTX 5070 could be delayed until March, which is actually scheduled for February like the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti.
VideoCardz collected more votes on the topic. Custom PC vendor PowerGPU has found clear words in warning of extremely low availability on the X platform, which could even last for months.
A message from Zotac Korea indicates that the manufacturer’s RTX 5090 will not be available until early February at the earliest. The sale was, to say the least, “difficult” to organize in time for January 30. A delay until mid-February due to “external factors” is also possible. No information is yet provided on the availability of the GeForce RTX 5080; this still needs to be verified.
So that individual customers have at least a better chance of purchasing the product when availability is low, limited retail distribution is also speculated. For example, only one RTX 5090 or RTX 5080 will be sold per customer, as reported elsewhere, citing German and French retail sources.
