Odyssey OLED G6 with 500 Hz: Samsung takes the Hertz crown with 51 comments
Valle: Samsung (I’m going up)
At CES 2025, QD monitors with a 500 Hz refresh rate were announced for the first time, for example from Gigabyte, ASUS, or MSI. However, its panel supplier Samsung is now the first manufacturer to bring a corresponding model to market with the Odyssey OLED G6 G60SF – but initially only in Asia.
Samsung sits at the top of the high-refresh race.
Very high refresh rates of 240 Hz are, so to speak, for gaming monitors with OLED panels. Last year, however, the Race for Ever Higher Refresh began: LG Display presented 4K/1080p dual-mode monitors last year, reducing their resolution from 4K to just 1080p, but at the same time doubling the refresh rate from 240 Hz to 480 Hz. For GamesCom, the manufacturer presented another 480 Hz Fast OLED panel in WQHD resolution, which, in addition to its own Ultragear series monitor, is also used by ASUS and Sony.
So far, Samsung, as the second largest panel manufacturer, has not been able to keep up with its QD OLED panels in this regard; at 360 Hz, it was finished. However, numerous monitors have already been announced by various manufacturers at CES 2025, all of which rely on Samsung as suppliers, which wants to establish the crown in terms of refresh rates. ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, and last but not least, Samsung, as a panel manufacturer, are launching models with a faster 500 Hz. As it turns out, Samsung is now launching its first product, while LG’s competition is finally beating the 20 Hz mark, and it can therefore boast the world’s fastest OLED monitor.
Apart from the refresh rate, there’s little new.
If the extremely high refresh rate isn’t used, the Samsung Odyssey OLED G6 is essentially a relatively “standard” monitor that offers a lot of features. The WQHD resolution at almost 27 inches has been established by OLED monitors since the very beginning, with extremely fast switching times of 0.03 seconds (related to the technology) in common. HDR certification with VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 is slightly better than most other OLED monitors in this size class; until now, True Black 400 was familiar. VRR is achieved via FreeSync Premium Pro; the monitor is still certified as G-Sync compatible.

On the other hand, the display’s anti-glare coating should minimize reflections. Samsung took a long time to develop its QD OLED panel with a semi-gloss finish, which is supposed to ensure more brilliant colors, but causes problems in bright light. It was only this year that the manufacturer began mirroring its displays with the third generation of QD OLEDs, thus approaching LG with its WLED technology, which relies on such a coating from the start.
In terms of connections, the Odyssey OLED G6 uses a DisplayPort 1.4 input and an HDMI 2.1 input. In addition, the monitor has two USB Type-A ports with USB 3.2 GEN 1. The silver monitor base has a swivel function, allowing the monitor to be rotated 90 degrees if necessary. Alternatively, a base or monitor arm from a third-party manufacturer can also be used via a 100×100 VESA mount.
Market launch only in Asia, with Europe to follow later.
Although Samsung announces the market launch in the press release, all interested parties in this country must first be patient. First, the monitor is only available in Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia; all other markets will be served at a later date—the manufacturer is currently still deciding on a specific date for Europe.
Prices in euros are also still pending. For Singapore, the monitor is currently listed on Samsung’s website with a pre-order discount at a price of $1,488 Singapore, including a multi-time tax, which is the equivalent of over 1,025 euros. However, the monitor is expected to cost $1,688 there, and converted to euros, it comes to approximately 1,165 euros. However, it should be noted that, on the one hand, Singapore charges a low VAT rate (9%), and, on the other hand, Samsung may also specify different prices for other markets.
