LG will unveil a whole range of new monitors and TVs at CES 2025. Traditionally, the company presents some of them before the start of the show. This year, the LG 45GX990A – or LG UltraGear OLED Bendable Gaming – is the first: a 45-inch foldable 5K2K OLED monitor.

21:9 with 5120 × 2160 pixels

According to LG, this is the first monitor of its type in the world. The screen resolution is 5,120 × 2,160 pixels, so you get the same vertical resolution as UHD, but there is more space in width, resulting in an aspect ratio of 21:9 instead of the classic Leading 16:9. LG chose 21:9 because it offers better compatibility than 32:9, but at the same time it also offers greater immersion than 16:9 for gamers for example. But the extra width can also be useful outside of gaming for displaying multiple windows next to each other.

Flat or twisted

The LG UltraGear OLED Foldable Gaming Monitor (model name 45GX990A) can be used completely flat or be folded by the user. A curvature of up to 900R is then possible. The monitor will also be available in a curved version with 800R (model number 45GX950A), which technically does not differ from the 45GX990A.

Dual mode for more Hz

The monitor should also have a dual mode, that is, the possibility of reducing the resolution in favor of a faster refresh rate. However, LG is not yet revealing details on the resolutions and refresh rates you can switch between. The maximum refresh rate is also not yet mentioned in the documents.

Previously known technical specifications

However, the monitor is confirmed to support both and FreeSync Premium Pro. Other technical data known so far includes a response time of 0.03 ms ()GtG), DisplayPort 2.1, HDMI 2.1, VRR and USB-C with a power delivery of 90 watts. The 45GX950A uses an RGWB panel, intended to improve text readability.

LG UltraGear 39GX90SA

With the UltraGear 39GX90SA, LG also announced a 39-inch monitor that features webOS and will also serve as a “home entertainment hub” for video and streaming content. It also has a 21:9 aspect ratio and is curved at 800R. Besides the fact that it has USB-C ports, other details are still missing.

Prices and availability

LG will not reveal pricing and market launch dates until CES 2025 next week. However, it is questionable whether there will be direct details for the German market.
