Only 168 ROPS Active: Alternate Sells RTX 5090 with ROP Defect as B-Goods
What’s actually happening with the RTX-50 graphics cards affected by the ROP defect that buyers returned to their respective dealers? Alternate is apparently selling them as B-Goods, as the offer for a Zotac GeForce RTX 5090 Solid OC only shows 168 ROPS instead of 176. However, the list clearly exceeds the RRP.
What happens to returners with too few ROPS?
In February, it gradually announced that some GeForce RTX 5090, RTX 5070 TI, and RTX 5080s were being exchanged with a defective ROP partition. In this country, too, buyers were affected, as the community was able to present itself at the computer base. In practice, 3D performance in games with an affected GeForce RTX 5070 plummeted by 11% in the worst case, but Nvidia reported an average 4% loss. However, at the time, only “less than 0.5%” of the delivered RTX 5090 (d) should be affected. The manufacturer‘s advice: Affected customers should return their graphics card to the dealer.

The fact that retailers can continue to sell the partially defective graphics cards is an achievement, but the price is also remarkable: the solid GeForce RTX 5090 OC costs around €2,900 without a ROP partition. On the one hand, it’s no less of an alternative to the currently unprinted counterpart without B-Ware identification, and on the other hand, it’s well above the recommended retail price. The base model without factory OC is actually a so-called MSRP or UVP model that manufacturers should bring to market at the current Founders Edition price in the EU.
Availability and pricing remain a problem for new graphics cards.
In the worst case, a GeForce RTX 5090 is barely faster than an RTX 4090, but it’s still stronger than any other gaming graphics card with the flawless RTX 5090. And supply in this performance region clearly cannot meet demand, as confirmed by the publishers’ availability widgets.
