ONYX BOOX: Firmware 4.0 with numerous innovations for the Reader app

Onyx has begun distributing a new firmware update for many of its reading and e-note models. Users can look forward to new features in the Reading NEO Reader app and the library. In addition, various bugs have been fixed.

Many useful improvements in the reading app

With the update, users receive, among other things, the option to individually customize and disable the top function bar in the library in the settings. In addition, a new button has been integrated in the lower right corner, which allows users to switch the library view with a single tap. This allows for quick switching between different display modes. Reading settings such as font, sidebar, intervals, or background color can now be saved as presets. This eliminates the need to re-adjust each individual document. Additionally, according to ONYX, a “more intuitive” display of reading progress as a percentage has been added to the document cover, and the previous progress bar in the document has been removed. The refresh mode entry has been moved to the bottom menu of the first level, which should simplify future adjustments.

Text recognition in documents has also been adjusted and now runs in the background, so that content can still be read, or comments and markups can be inserted, while subsequent pages are already being processed.

The notes function has also been improved.

The update also brings improvements for models with the note function. For example, new features include the ability to import files in PDF, CAJ, EPUB, MOBI, JPEG, JPG, PNG, and TXT formats from local memory to create notebooks that retain all index hyperlinks and are interactive. Markup visibility has also been improved. There are now 18 additional note forms available on supported devices, including parallelograms and pyramids. Additionally, the previous 500-page limit has been removed, but Onyx notes in the official release that presentations may slow down when opening.

Many models are receiving the new update

This time, mandatory bug fixes and performance improvements have been included among the large number of new features. Since Onyx also rolls out its firmware updates in stages, it may take a few days for all users to receive an update notification. Manual installation via an update file is still not available. The following devices are supported in the current update:

Go 10.3 (test), Go Color 7 (test), Go 6NOTE MAX, Note Air4 C, Note Air3, Note Air3 C (test), Note Air2 Plus, Note Air2 (test), Note 5TAB X, Tab Ultra C Pro, Tab Ultra C, Tab Ultra, Tab Mini CPAGE, POKE4 Lite, Poke5, Poke5 THEMES: Firmware ONYX Tablets Type: ONYX
