Power-to-flow memory: Google launches battery swaps for the Pixel 7a 67 Comments
Google has admitted that some Pixel 7A smartphones may experience unexpected battery surges. For this reason, the manufacturer has launched a free swap program for power storage.
Also affected users in Germany
As can be seen from a support document published by Google, affected users of Pixel 7A devices may be entitled to a free repair with a battery replacement, or other goodwill service from the company. However, this depends on the respective country in which the device was purchased, as well as the current warranty status. In addition to Germany, the swap program has also been launched in India, Canada, Great Britain, Japan, Singapore, and the United States. According to Google, a damaged battery can be seen in the fact that the smartphone may appear thicker than usual, the back is curved, or it may separate from the rest of the smartphone, which would be visible at the edges. Another indication could be unusually rapid battery consumption, even with light use and simultaneous charging.
If an affected Pixel 7A model meets the requirements mentioned in the support document, the battery will be replaced free of charge as part of the program. Users can check if there is a claim via the registration page provided by Google.
Google will pay the equivalent of just over €400.
If, as in Germany, there is no way to send the defective device in for repair and an on-site repair is not desired or not desired, Google offers a goodwill solution. For devices outside the limited warranty or statutory guarantee, this includes a $200 payment or a $300 hardware discount code for the Google Store, valid for one year from the date of exposure. If the device is still within the warranty or statutory guarantee, Google offers the prospect of a $456 payment.
In all cases, Google reserves the right to inspect the smartphone, which may incur additional costs if further damage is found, according to information on Google. Reimbursement is handled via Payoneer and can take up to three weeks. If a goodwill solution is chosen, the affected device remains with the owner after payment.
