RDNA 4 graphics cards: AMD confirms the Radeon RX 8800 & 8600 in public code 161 comments
The first RDNA 4 graphics cards are expected to hit the market in the Radeon RX 8800 and Radeon RX 8600 series. AMD itself added the RDNA 4 GPU names GFX1201 and GFX1200 to the AMD ROCm development platform via an update. updated on GitHub.
Speculation that AMD might want to catch up with Ryzen with the next generation of Radeon and jump straight to the 9000 series has not come true.
AMD Radeon RX 8800 and RX 8600 are official
The subject of the update also makes no secret of the content. “Add navi4x arch to device_description and enable fp8 for this arch,” it is said publicly, which also confirms the unsurprising nomenclature of RDNA 4 “Navi 4x” GPUs.
Just because we’re talking about the “RX 8800” and “RX 8600” doesn’t mean the first variants aren’t XT models – that’s just the series for now. ROCm is AMD’s software stack for programming GPUs and is therefore the answer to Nvidia CUDA.
Still RDNA 4 “leaks” on GitHub
AMD has been surprisingly open about RDNA 4 on GitHub for months. We already knew in May that “gfx1201” was Navi 48 and “gfx1200” was Navi 44.
In June, the Navi-48 GPU reappeared in the ROCmValidationSuite on GitHub. Navi 48 is probably the largest GPU of the new generation.
Navi 48 is rumored to have 32 WGP (64 CU) and measure 240 mm², while Navi 44 is a smaller chip with 16 WGP (32 CU) and only 130 mm².
According to recent speculation, the new top model will hit the market under the name Radeon RX 8800 administration from mid-year. December.
