With the new generation of from Nvidia, it is customary (not) that a custom model even has four fans. This is also possible for gigabytes, but not factory assembled, but only as an option of the package supplement. This can also be visually liked, but it is not necessary.

4. Fan at Gigabyte Aorus Master

Gigabyte adds the RTX 5080 AORUS MASTER and GEFORCE RTX 5090 AORUS MASTER graphics cards to the fourth fan. According to the illustrations, it acts as a commercially available housing fan of the 120mm class, which is installed on the back of the graphics card in addition to the three existing fans. This ensures additional project and potentially better cooling capacity. Gigabyte writes:

Extended heat sink lets air through and draws heat efficiently. An additional fan provided further increases the cooling capacity.

Temperatures almost unchanged

In a test, the issues website revealed that the Aorus Gigabyte RTX 5080 Master achieved lower GPU temperatures with this additional fan at best by 2°C. Seen this way, the fourth fan is by no means a revelation in terms of cooling performance. The result matches that the ROG GEFORCE RTX 5080 ASTRAL in the editorial team’s fan night test.

Anyone who has a home with an observation window will probably do without the additional fan for aesthetic reasons, which optically comes as a cheap DIY solution. Since there is no PIN header for the fan on the graphics card, it must also be connected otherwise.

Videocardz notes that manufacturer Galax is already pursuing a similar concept for the SG series. Here for the fourth fan there is at least one separate connection on the graphics card. Additionally, the additional fan design is more consistent for the graphics card.

The 4th fan is also not a highlight at Asus

ASUS has once again firmly installed the 4th fan of the ROG GeForce RTX 5090 Astral (test). Since this is really annoying with its background noise, the optional solution for gigabytes is not a bad idea, although it seems superfluous given the apparently moderate benefit.

Five fans at MSI

If a quartet of fans isn’t enough, will soon go further. The announced GeForce RTX 5090 Special Edition will reportedly have five fans in the air-cooling variant. Two of them are sitting on their backs.
