RTX 5080 Custom-Designs IM Test: ASUS ROG Astral vs MSI Suprim Soc vs Zotac Amp Extreme 213 KOMMENTARE
Yesterday the GeForce RTX 5080 Founders Edition review went live, today the GeForce RTX 5080 Custom Designs review follows the market launch. Techtip has in a first comparison Asus Rog GeForce RTX 5080 ASTRAL, MSI GEFORCE RTX 5080 SOC SOC and ZOTAC GEFORCE RTX 5080 AMP! Sent into the duel with the Fe.

GEFORCE RTX 5080 CUSTOM-DESIGNS IM Review
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 Founders Edition basically convinced with its cooler design in the test. A surprise, however, was that the purely external cooler as on the (test) RTX 5090 Founders Edition acts barely quieter despite up to 215 watts less consumption. There are two reasons for this: first, NVIDIA slipped the cooling system under the hood (conventional vapor chamber, no liquid metal heating paste) and secondly lower GPU temperatures.
For custom designs of the GeForce RTX 5080, there’s still plenty of scope to act quieter and perhaps even calmer and even cooler. And of course there is also the possibility of providing more power.
ASUS ROG ASTRAL VS. MSI Suprim vs Zotac AMP (vs Nvidia Fe)
The computer base was available for initial comparison, three custom designs of the GeForce RTX 5080 were available:
Tailor-made RUVP surcharge for ASUS ROG Founder’s Edition GEFORCE RTX 5080 ASTRAL OC 1,599 EUROS +430 EURO GEFORCE RTX 5080 SUPRIM SOC 1,500 Euro Zotac Geforce RTX 5080 AMP EXTREME INFINITÉ 1,289 EUROS +120 EUROS
The ASUS ROG GEFORCE RTX 5080 ASTRAL OC Edition matches the other board with the other GPU 1:1 from the already tested ROG GeForce RTX 5090 as well as Grand 5090. ZOTAC’s Extreme Infinity custom design amp performs a little more small, but nevertheless it is the preliminary top model, which is also available on the RTX 5090. The “solid” variant is larger (in particularly thicker), but positioned by Zotac in the wallet under the amp.

This test clarifies what customers get over the FE and what design in terms of coolers (volume, temperatures), power consumption and performance.
First impressions
Before the next page on the details of the three custom designs and their test results, three subsequent comparisons should directly illustrate the space that the individual custom designs in the housing claim.
The most compact design in comparison is the Founders Edition, after AMP Extreme Infinity comes from Zotac, SOC SOC from MSI and finally the Lean Rog Astral from Asus
The ASUS ROG GEFORCE RTX 5090 ASTRAL is the most difficult in the case used to keep horizontal, the supm and amp can do it without a “GPU stand”, which is included in all three models. The problem with ASUS: The magnetically firm stand can be extended, but is basically too long to be used in the case used (Fractal Design Meshify 2 (test)).

Test system and test methodology
In a departure from the known GPU Test System 2025, a new system has been configured for testing custom designs. During these heated weeks, it may be prevented from launching reviews of a new class and testing of custom designs gets in the way.
Custom design testing in another case
An AMD Ryzen 7 9800x3d (test) with DDR5-6000 is also in the custom design test system, but the case is completely different: instead of the Fractal Design Torrent, the Fractal Design Meshify 2 is used with six fans (Two in front (blowing), three in the back (all blowing).
The six slot fans operate with 800 rpm, the fan on the CPU cooler with 1000 rpm
The fan on the CPU cooler, a Noctua NH-U12S Redux, spins with 1,000 revolutions per minute.
All tests and benchmarks are trained in this configuration, only the lust force measurement takes place with disabled fans isolated for the graphics card (30 cm distance from the side door side with open speed under load).
The two available BIOS versions are tested in the test. For this purpose, the graphics card (as in the standard test course) is operated in Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition in UHD for maximum details and closed housing wall. A reference is made after 5 minutes. The reference result and measured values for temperatures, speeds, clock rates and consumption are then recorded.
There is still a driver/firmware bug
What noticed in the test: when changing the BIOS version and subsequently rebooting, there is obviously a bug. It is not clear whether it concerns the firmware of the ASUS ROG GEFORCE RTX 5080 ASTRAL or the driver. However, this means that the graphics card, BIOS versions also contain different TDP classes, do not take control of these settings: sometimes the higher TDP was due, but may not be after the next reboot.
Since the ASUS ROG Astral was the only graphics card in the test field that also changes the TDP class with the BIOS variants (360 or 400 watts), the problem occurred there. ASUS is informed of this.
