Samsung Display already considers itself the leading supplier of OLED panels for monitors. Market researchers confirm that Samsung has a 71.2% market share for 2024. This year, Samsung aims to increase sales of QD OLED panels for monitors by another 50%. In addition, cheaper gaming panels are expected.
In 2025, a good million QD OLED monitor panels are expected to be discontinued.
Strictly speaking, the display subsidiary of the South Korean electronics giant expects sales of QD OLED panels for monitors in 2025 to increase by more than 50% compared to the previous year. Last year, Samsung Display shipped approximately 1.43 million QD-OLED monitor panels. This means that at least 2.15 million panels are expected by 2025.
However, this does not necessarily mean that Samsung Display will increase its market share. For 2025, market researchers expect the overall OLED panel market to grow by about 50% for monitors. Competitor LG Display could also increase its sales by the same amount, so the market share distribution could remain unchanged. The share of Chinese OLED production is likely to be relatively small, which is gradually being raised and should therefore not be overlooked in the future.

According to statistics from market research firm Omdia, only 8,300 OLED panels were discontinued worldwide for monitors in 2021, which was the year Samsung began manufacturing its QD displays, but which reached the market in 2022. Sales reached approximately 160,000 units this year and are expected to reach approximately 820,000 units in 2023. A jump in the order of 3.1 million panels is expected.
Cheaper gaming monitors planned with QD-OLED
At the top of the Samsung display press release are new flagship products such as the 27-inch UHD display with 160 ppi or the WQHD display with 500 Hz of the same size. However, to significantly increase sales, monitors in particular must be sold in large quantities, which is more likely to be achieved with cheaper monitors. And so Samsung Display intends to make the mid- to lower-price range work in the future.
Samsung Display plans to strategically expand its product lineup in the consumer and business segments to meet strong market demand and enhance its market influence. For the gaming lineup, the company plans to enter the mid- to lower-price range in addition to its existing high-end offerings.

In general, the product lineup had to be strategically expanded both privately and within its divisions, “to meet strong demand and strengthen its market influence,” the company explains.
