Seasonic Core GX ATX 3: Mid-range power supply refresh brings ATX 3.1 with 12V-2x6

After two mid-range power supply series, the Focus GX and Vertex GX series, have already been updated to the ATX 3.1 standard, Seasonic continues the strategy with the Core GX ATX 3. This not only meets the requirements of PCIe Gen 5.1 for fast alternate charging capability, but also 12V 2×6 connection.

Seasonic Core GX vs. Focus GX vs. Vertex GX

As with the Focus-GX and Vertex-GX power supplies, Seasonic wants to achieve a higher level of production automation by using as many SMT components as possible. The “OptiSink Design” aims to use installation space more efficiently and improve heat dissipation. Compared to the two GX series already available, the fan has been reduced to a 120 mm model, which is also permanently active. The Core series also slims down slightly when it comes to warranty and maximum power rating.

Overall, it can be assumed that the electronics have been reduced, because the variants no longer have output powers of 750 to 1000 or 1200 watts, but rather 650 to 850 watts.

A 12V 2×6 to power them all

There is a 12V 2×6 socket according to ATX 3.1 on the power supply connection panel, which can be used to connect not only with the same connector system, but also graphics cards with conventional PCIe connectors. Delivery includes a 12 V 2×6 cable, divided into two PCIe cables. This design decision has the disadvantage that the second PCIe cable cannot be removed if only one is needed. A single PCIe cable (8 pin) is included only with the 850 watt model.

In black in Europe this year

The Core GX ATX 3 power supplies are currently only available in the Chinese market – EU availability is expected to be available at the end of December for the black models. The white models will follow next year at the end of February.

At 105.90 (650 watts), 115.90 (750 watts) and 129.90 euros (850 watts), the recommended prices are slightly lower than those of the Focus GX and Vertex GX series, instead of a guarantee of 10 or 12 years old. It’s only been 7 years for the Core GX ATX 3 series.
