There’s still no public announcement about the PCIe 5.0 SSD Kingston Fury Renegade G5. However, the market launch has already taken place. The new flagship boasts a whopping 14.8 GB/s at the PCIe 5.0 limit and starts at €190.

Fury Renegade G5 is Kingston’s new flagship.

At the beginning of April, the first tangible indications of the new flagship of Kingston’s client SSD portfolio appeared, and in the meantime, the manufacturer’s product pages have gone online as confirmation. However, there has been no press release yet.

Market Launch, Pricing, and Availability

Nevertheless, the SSD is already available in selected online stores. It was therefore secretly introduced. In the basic computer price comparison, the Kingston Fury Renegade G5 currently costs €190 for 1 TB, €310 for 2 TB, and €569 for 4 TB. For example, the alternative dealer is available directly from Warehouse.

Based on the key data (details at the end of the post), the Kingston Fury Renegade G5 competes with the Samsung 9100 Pro (review), which is cheaper per hour. However, it remains to be seen whether the Kingston Fury Renegade G5 can keep up with it or even leave it behind. And the competition from dealers depends on how high the street prices of Kingston’s new SSD ultimately end up. SM2508 instead of Phison E26

While Kingston has implemented a Phison and PCIe 4.0 controller, as with the identical Kingston KC3000 (review), a switch has now been made to Silicon Motion’s efficient SM2508 and PCIE 5.0 controller.

The Kingston Fury Renegade G5 is available with capacities of 1,024 GB, 2,048 GB, and 4,096 GB. The smaller version is expected to read at 14,200 MB/s and write at 11,000 MB/s. The 2 TB version is rated at 14,700/14,000 MB/s, and the 4 TB model is expected to deliver the same performance. Bytes Totally Written (TBW) are rated at 1,000 TB, 2,000 TB, and 4,000 TB, which is identical to its predecessor.

Power consumption is expected to be a maximum of 6.6 watts (1 TB) and 9.5 watts (4 TB), which is significantly lower than the 12 watts for some counterparts with the Phison E26 controller. Kingston is one of the few vendors not relying on the Phison E26. More SSDs with SM2508 controllers in the pipeline

In addition to the Lexar NM1090 Pro, the Kingston Fury Renegade G5 is one of the first SSDs with SM2508 controllers to reach the Western market. In addition, the Adata Mars 970 Storm and Mars 970 blades, as well as the Biwin Black Opal X570 Pro, are expected to arrive soon.

The PC base will be testing at least one of these models.
