Send-to-Kindle: E-Book Shipping Only with a Full Email Address 11 comments

While other e-book reader manufacturers are steadily developing the software and management of their devices, Amazon has not only been on the front foot for years, but is also further restricting the functionality of its devices. Now, the retailer will reduce the “send to origin” feature, an important feature for some users.
After Amazon blocked the ability to save a copy of e-books purchased locally through the online retailer on February 26, it will no longer be possible to send e-books via partial addresses or pure domain addresses (“@xyz.de”) to Kindle readers starting April 1, 2025. Instead, full email addresses will have to be used in the future. Documents with incomplete or unapproved email addresses are no longer delivered after this time, and senders receive a transmission error.
Return instead of further development
While most users should not be affected by this restriction, there were still scenarios in which the previous implementation offered advantages: users were able to send their books directly to all readers with multiple Kindle devices. Schools, businesses, and organizations also benefited from this option, as they were able to distribute content to thousands of users simultaneously, without relying on a large mailing list. These organizations must now seek alternative solutions.
It remains to be hoped that Amazon will not further limit the functionality of “Send to Origin” or even completely remove the feature, as it has offered clear added value for some users in the past. This “detour” was necessary to use EPUB books without a separate conversion program like Calibre on the Kindle. So far, there has been no way to use Amazon’s servers and conversion, which are not used to provide notes for the Kindle Skrib, which must be provided with notes via the Kindle Skrib.
