Silverstone Alta D1: Modular slots make workstation enclosures flexible 31 comments

The Silverstone Alta D1 promises a lot of flexibility thanks to its modular inserts. The target group of the workstation enclosure is primarily productive applications and businesses, as demonstrated by the support for server components, but also the price.
The Alta D1 clearly uses around 79 liters of volume for its components and less for the huge water cooling systems designed for show. There is room for XL-ATX motherboards and server boards in SSI-EEB format; the maximum size is only 15.12″ × 13.2″.
Modularity starts with the locations…
Eleven PCIe slots are available for expansion cards so that up to four graphics cards can be used at the same time. However, the last four slots are part of a “modular construction kit” and can be replaced. Instead of the connector cover, you can place a power supply or hard drive cage there.
However, the Alta D1 also has two vertical slots above the motherboard for these cages. Delivery includes two power supports for a dual power system.

And it stops with hard drives
In addition, two hard drive cages for two 3.5″ or four 2.5″ drives as well as one cage for two 5.25″ drives are included as standard. They can be attached not only to the rear, but also at the same height the Alta D1 can accommodate up to four modules on the drives According to the product page, Silverstone also offers cages for purchase individually.
If the top two module slots on the left side remain free, three 120mm fans or a 360mm radiator can be placed on the side fan bracket for cooling. Additional brackets are located on the right side of the case. If the bottom slots remain free, the fan or heatsink will fit into the bottom of the case. Two 180mm fans at the front and a 140mm model at the rear are included. If additional modules are placed on the front, the cooling capacity is reduced. However, each module slot cover also accommodates two 80mm fans so that cooling performance can be maximized if necessary.
High three digits
The price also reveals that the case is primarily aimed at businesses. The manufacturer‘s suggested retail price is around $800. Silverstone has not yet provided availability information.
