With the FLP01, Silverstone is launching a true retro case in desktop format on the market. The model, presented a year ago as an April Fool’s joke, is indeed arriving on the market. This means that the floppy disk is making a “comeback”: fake floppy disk drives are included in the model.
At first glance, the FLP01, which Silverstone presented in Japan according to Ascii-JP, comes from another era. The beige exterior color, which will give way to a grayer tone in the final version, and the two 5.25″ floppy disk drives are hallmarks of computers from the 1980s. However, the case itself has nothing to see with the times: vintage formats are not supported, the model is fully adapted to current hardware.
Silverstone doesn’t have to do anything about this, as the layout matches what has been produced and sold in Grandia series desktop cases like the Gandia GD09 for a good decade. This means that the FLP01 has space for an ATX motherboard installed horizontally. The power supply is placed directly next to it.

Graphics cards can be a maximum of 310 millimeters long. However, particularly tall circuit boards may hit the housing cover; compared to an ATX tower, there is little room for this as the FLP01 remains relatively flat. This also impacts the cooler: a height limit of 138 millimeters is sufficient for large top-blow coolers or compact tower coolers with 92mm fans. As is typical for Grandia, ventilation takes place via three 120mm fans on the sides and two 80mm models at the rear. However, you have to buy them.
There is one limitation though: there is a 5.25″ drive bay at the CPU socket, which severely limits the height of the cooler when in use. You can see why in Ascii-JP’s photos The retro case comes here The “floppy drives” also come into play: these are covers for the 5.25″ drive and the modern I/O ports connected to it. It didn’t exist in the 1980s either – USB wasn’t introduced until 1996.
According to Ascii-JP, the FLP01 will arrive on the Japanese market in the first quarter of 2025 at a price of 19,800 yen (around 120 euros). Nothing is yet known about prices and market launch in Europe.
