In a major update announced since January, Paradox’s “Phoenix Update 4.0” Stellaris is being fundamentally overhauled in several areas. Residents, planets, a database, Imperial concentrations, and more are affected. At the same time, the Biogenesis expansion, which focuses on gene editing, is also being released. 4.0 “Phoenix”: The Biggest Update Since 3.0 “Dick”
With the 4.0 “Phoenix” update, the biggest leap since April 2021 has been made with the “Dick” update and the revised hub areas of the game, which will also be familiar to experienced players: Residents are now calculated differently, which should improve performance in the final game, but also lead to a new (higher) population. Planet districts can now specialize, so that a Malus’s agricultural culture supports science, for example. Switching between jobs is also facilitated by a better combination of state elements, according to the developers in a video.
In addition, premature pre-predictions can now be disabled in the framework before the game starts. This way, players can prevent the same questline from experiencing new games.
In particular, the beginning of the game should also be made easier for new players. The feature, which experienced players should also use, allows players to select a direction for exploration, conquest, and development. The game then specifies certain sub-issues with which players can develop and expand their kingdom in this direction. Because the game then knows your direction, there should be guaranteed technology options that match your orientation.
The new Reich Time Bar also stores memorable events during your game, creating a kind of history for your kingdom.
Biogenesis: Gene Modifications Revised
The Biogenesis expansion is part of Season 9 for Stellaris, which launched in March. The DLC adds the new Citadel megastructure to the game, as well as three new origins, new state elements, new species properties, a new player crisis, and “living” biological spacecraft as a new ship type. The expansion also revises the three genetic ascension paths, allowing an empire to better specialize in gene modifications. As usual, all new features are connected via three new origins that fit into the DLC’s role-playing gameplay. In a short video, the developer demonstrates all the major changes.
Availability: Starting Today
The 4.0 update and the new Biogenesis expansion are expected to be released today, May 5th. Biogenesis has already been released on Steam and costs €24.99 as a one-time purchase. The DLC is also included in Season Pass 09, along with three other DLCs, but costs €44.99. Alternatively, the DLCs can also be played as part of the subscription.
