Strange Antiquities: Trailer shows gameplay of occult puzzle game 5 comments
The popular and extremely highly rated point-and-click adventure Strange Horticulture from indie developer Bad Viking will soon have a successor. A few years after the action of the occult puzzle game, players again find themselves in the mysterious Undermere – this time not as an herbalist, but as an antiquarian.
Return to Undermere
As an apprentice to the local thaumaturge, players stand behind the counter of the local antique store and serve customers, solve puzzles, and interact with occult artifacts. The leitmotifs are once again folklore, mystical legends and supernatural phenomena. Strange Antiquities is intended to take the dark and already familiar setting and largely the game mechanics of its predecessor, but at the same time build on obviously attractive foundations and tell a new story – that’s what the developers revealed in the announcement. A first gameplay trailer now shows to what extent the Strange Horticulture sequel remains faithful to its game mechanics.

As a result, the puzzle game once again relies on puzzles, role-playing conversations with even more twists and detective work. Although the plot is dark and even macabre, it can be assumed that Strange Antiquities will ultimately be a cozy “cozy game”. A cat is also there and invites you to be petted, but it is not the nocturnal black tomcat Hellebore.
Some places, people and events will be familiar to Strange Horticulture players, say the two brothers and independent developers from the United Kingdom. However, it is by no means necessary to have played the predecessor to understand it.
It is not yet officially known when Strange Antiquities, published again by Iceberg Interactive, will appear – but it is quite possible that a date will be given with the gaming events of the next few days. Until then, the publisher offers you to play on a Discord server.
Independent success Strange Horticulture
The predecessor, Strange Horticulture, was released in early 2022 and has since sold over 750,000 copies. The game is currently available on Steam and is reduced by 70 percent to 4.73 euros until December 16; More than 10,000 reviews are “overwhelmingly positive.” The puzzle game, which was later released for Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, also received widespread praise from critics.
