In January, Synology announced a new Plus model in its Beestation series with doubled storage capacity to 8TB. Following its global launch, the network storage is now also available in Germany. This isn’t just about storage.

Fast Storage for Easy Data Backup

The network storage, positioned between the BeeDrive (test) and the compact models in the DiskStation series, now has a hard drive with a capacity of 8TB. The manufacturer also sees the new model as particularly suited to securing, organizing, and approving files, as well as fast synchronization of folders and content. Compared to Beedrive, the Beestation continues to offer the advantage of not relying on a connected computer, but can still play a significant role in data backup. Numerous sources are once again supported, starting with and systems, through smartphones and tablets to cloud services, whose content is fully secured and synchronized in the background after a one-time installation. The system also combines snapshot-based recovery points with a free three-month Beeprotect cloud backup subscription, thus enabling easy backup using the 3-in-1 concept. After the test phase, the subscription costs of $14.27 per month or $142.79 are incurred with an annual payment.

The bestation also primarily targets the new model for users looking for easy-to-use network storage and for whom a full-fledged NAS seems too complex or whose extensive range of functions is too expensive and therefore they want to deliberately save money. SYNOLOGY HARDWARE SPECIFICATION CAPPORTION 4 TB Processor TB REALTEK RTD1619B Celeron J4125 RAM 1 GB DDR4 4 GB GDR4 Dimensions (H × W × D) 148.0 × 62.6 × 196.3 mm LAN Port 1 × 1GBE RJ-45 Weight 820 G 1,300 G × USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 Software Requirements Supported Devices Google Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari 14 and New Beestation for Windows 10 64-bit (build 17063 or newer), Windows 11, macOS 12.3 15 and newer, 8 and newer Scope of delivery Delivery guide, AC adapter, adapter, RJ-45 cord 440.24

New hardware ensures higher performance

The expanded memory isn’t the only reason for the name change, which is characterized by the “plus.” Instead of the Realtek RTD1619B with four fast cores up to 1.7 GHz, which is used in the smaller model, Synology is placing an Intel Celeron J4125 in the new device, whose four cores with up to 2.7 GHz can be significantly faster. In combination with the RAM, which has been increased from 1 GB to 4 GB, this new platform, according to the manufacturer, should guarantee 2.6 times faster image display of a mobile photo backup, while file induction should be accelerated by a factor of 3.8 when transferred via the browser. Synchronization via the desktop app has therefore been almost eliminated. The offering is rounded off by AI-based photo albums, support for cloud services such as Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive, as well as the ability to integrate external hard drives. Additionally, a Plex media server is now directly integrated, allowing content to be easily streamed.

As for the network connection, users must continue to rely on a Gigabit Ethernet connection. This remains unchanged, as do the existing USB-A and USB-B interfaces, which comply with the 3.2 GEN 1 standard.

Almost double the price

The Beestation Plus is now available in Germany. For the new model, Synology specifies a non-binding recommended retail price of around €440, which is around €200 above the RRP of the regular Beestation.
