Synology: Details of DS925+, DS1525+, DS425+, DS1825+ with 2.5 GBE 33 Comments
Synology hasn’t yet announced a new 25 series NAS this year, but photos from an event in Asia now indicate that Synology will finally do away with the old Gigabit connection for LAN connections and will offer at least 2.5 GBE or even 10 GBE in the new models.
The information that has surfaced (see also) provides not only information on the new disk docks, but also on rack stations, which are expected to be equipped with AMD CPUs and 10 Gigabits. Specifically, the Synology DS225+, DS425+, DS725+, DS925+, DS625SLIM, DS1525+, DS1825+, DS1825XS+, and RS2825RP+ boards are being rolled out. Synology is therefore planning new designs for larger models with two and four drive shafts, which are particularly popular among home enthusiasts.
In the future, Synology will rely on at least a 2.5 Gigabit LAN connection, replacing the previously mandatory 1 Gigabit connection. This is a step required by users that Synology has repeatedly pushed for, with the barely available availability of faster networks. Now, you can see the moment as coming.
Furthermore, Synology is replacing the ESATA connection, which is still installed in some models, but is becoming increasingly irrelevant in practice. New Synology NAS rumors for 2025
DS925+, DS1525+, and DS1825+: Ryzen CPUs and dual 2.5 GBEs
With the DS925+, DS1525+, and DS1825+, Synology relies on the AMD V1500B processor, which the company already uses in the Synology DS1621+ (review). The Ryzen V1500B relies on four Zen cores with eight threads and clocks at 2.2 GHz. The processor is still manufactured in 14nm on Zen. It supports DDR4-2400 with ECC. The Ryzen V1500B does not offer integrated graphics. The L2 cache is 2 MB, the L3 cache is 4 MB, and the TDP can be configured from 12 to 25 watts. The Synology DS923+ (review) currently features an AMD Ryzen R1600 with 2.60 GHz, two cores, and four threads. All three models also feature not only a faster 2.5-gigabit network connection, but two that can be launched via link aggregation or benefit from SMB multichannel.
V1780B and 10 GBE for DS1825XS+ and RS2825RP+
In contrast, the AMD Ryzen V1780B is featured in the DS1825XS+ and RS2825RP+, which Synology also uses in the DS1823XS+. It offers a 3.35 GHz clock speed, four CPU cores, and eight threads. Rumor has it that these two models are also equipped with 10-gigabit LAN. DS425+ and DS225+ Suite with Celeron
Rumor has it that the DS425+ and DS225+ will stick with the Intel Celeron J4125, which the DS423+ (review) and DS224+ (review) already have. However, they will also be equipped with a fast 2.5 Gbps LAN connection.
DS725+ with 2.5 Gbps and Ryzen
The DS725+, as an intermediate step from the DS225+ to the DS925+, will also stick with the processor from the Synology DS723+ (review), an AMD Ryzen R1600, but will also have a 2.5 Gbps connection.
DS625SLIM: New compact NAS for 2.5″
The DS620SLIMM is also expected to receive a successor, the DS625SLIMM, which offers space for six SSDs or HDDs in a 2.5-inch form factor and is particularly compact. The Intel Celeron J3355 in the DS620SLIM is replaced by the Intel Celeron J4125 in the DS625SLIMM. This model also no longer has a 1-gigabit LAN connection, but only a 2.5-gigabit LAN connection.
Even though there is a new 6-bay NAS with the slim model, the datasheets do not show a successor for the DS1621+ (review) with six large slots. New Expansion Units with USB-C
Along with the RX1225RP for Rackmount NAS and DX525, Synology has new models in the works, the RX1225RP for Rackmount NAS and DX525, which now rely on USB-C for data transmission.
