With the Diskstation DS925+, Synology presents the long-term successor to the DS923+. The new 4-bay NAS is aimed at professional users and businesses looking for a compact, powerful, and future-proof storage solution, Synology explains. Performance has reportedly been significantly increased.
The Synology DS925+, in its familiar enclosure, is equipped with two 2.5 GBE network ports as well as two M.2 slots for SSD cache or an all-flash memory pool, finally saying goodbye to the 1 GBE port. Due primarily to the new ports, the new model is significantly faster than its predecessor, the DS923+. Synology boasts 149% faster SMB downloads, 150% faster uploads, 131% faster reads, and 150% faster write access.
The DX525 expansion unit, which is compatible with the DS925+ and expands the NAS from 4 to 9 bays, is also new. It connects via USB-C; Synology no longer uses eSATA. A USB-A connection is installed on the front and back of the DS925+.
AMD processor without IGPU
With the DS925+, Synology relies on the AMD V1500B processor, which the company already uses in the Synology DS1621+ (review). The Ryzen V1500B relies on four Zen cores with eight threads and clocks at 2.2 GHz. The processor is still manufactured in 14nm on Zen and supports DDR4-2400 with ECC. The Ryzen V1500B does not offer integrated graphics. The L2 cache is 2 MB, the L3 cache is 4 MB, and the TDP can be configured from 12 to 25 watts. The Synology DS923+ (review) currently features an AMD Ryzen R1600 with 2.60 GHz, two cores, and four threads. The DS925+ offers 4 gigabytes of RAM, which can be expanded up to 32 gigabytes. Synology HDDs or tested third-party manufacturers
Synology hard drives or compatible drives are also required for the DS925+. In this context, Synology once again demonstrates that Synology HDDs are not only possible with the Plus models of the Synology 2025 series. The devices support hard drives that are listed by Synology as compatible—including models from third-party manufacturers. Third-party manufacturers have the option of verifying their hard drives against Synology’s technical requirements and then officially listing them as compatible. Therefore, the restriction is not based on the brand, but on compliance with the specified compatibility criteria.

Diskstation Manager for scalability
Equipped with Diskstation Manager (DSM), the DS925+ also offers numerous features that can be upgraded with additional packages for centralized management of business data. With Synology Drive, the NAS can be transformed into a private cloud, for example, with cross-platform access and synchronization between different locations. The DS925+ also supports Surveillance Station, which allows video surveillance with real-time analysis.
Price and Availability
The DS925+ and DX525 expansion units will be available in Germany starting May 7, 2025. Synology is not revealing pricing at this time; it is expected to be announced only at the beginning in Germany.
