The tablet market reproduces again: Xiaomi with the greatest increase, Apple Continues to dominate 10 comments
The tablet market continued its growth trend in the fourth quarter of 2024 thanks to numerous new performances and seems to have left the difficult year 2023. The leader remains Apple-But the biggest winners are again Huawei and Xiaomi.
This emerges from Canalys analysts’ current report on global shelf sales last quarter and last year. The number of devices delivered increased by 5.6% in the fourth quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year, so that a total of 39.9 million tablets were delivered by manufacturers. If the entire year 2024 is considered in relation to 2023, the upward trend becomes even clearer: during this period, 147.6 million tablets were delivered worldwide, which corresponds to an increase of 9.2%. Growth was recorded in all regions, the only exception being North America. The hypothesis that the tablet market is largely saturated does not appear to be borne out.
Nothing new at the top
The leader for the fourth quarter of 2024 remains apple growth of 13.8% compared to the same period last year. Analysts mainly attribute it to the new models of the iPad Mini and iPad Air (test). In the year comparison, Apple’s growth of 5.3% is less than the competition, but the group also claims the highest position with almost 60 million devices sold.
Samsung also benefited from the growing interest in tablets, but with a reverse course Apple: In the quarterly comparison, the South Korean company had a moderate growth of 3.9%. However, sales increased by 8.2% throughout the year, which was able to successfully defend its second place with almost 28 million tablets sold, but in the end Apple abandonedDominance from the market.
Lenovo showed a 5.6% increase in the fourth quarter and achieved 12% growth throughout the year. However, with 2.8 million or 10 million units, the company ranks considerably behind the major manufacturers.

Huawei and Xiaomi are growing
Huawei and Xiaomi have each developed in different ways. While Huawei was the only manufacturer to drop less than 6.3% of tablets in the fourth quarter, Xiaomi saw a whopping 51.4% increase. Despite the conditions that were still difficult for American trade, Huawei recorded growth of 29.3% throughout the year.
According to analysts, Xiaomi’s growth is mainly attributed to the PAD 7 Pro. Also during the year, Xiaomi was able to increase its sales figures and achieved the highest increase among the mentioned manufacturers with an increase of 73.1%, which is reflected in almost 10 million units. This has overtaken the manufacturer Amazon, which is now only managed under “other manufacturers”. Xiaomi also plans to open a total of 20,000 retail stores in China by 2025, which could support further growth.

Fewer sales expected for the current year
However, analysts assume that the tablet market will grow more reserved in the current year. Among other things, this is attributed to the fact that, despite state funding last year, the Chinese market only grew in the single-digit percentage range. However, the financing program was extended until 2025, which continues to exist for Chinese manufacturers.
At the same time, the announced tariffs in the United States are considered a risk, as they could have a negative impact on the sales figures of the premium segment in the region. Nevertheless, the majority of business partners (52%) surveyed by Canaly’s interviewed are optimistic towards 2025 and expect increasing sales figures. 32% expect stable sales figures, while only 16% expect a decline.
