In addition to fun guaranteed hits, 2024 also had a lot of gaming crap to offer. The ten greatest creations are largely and rightly unknown. But there are exceptions, both among users and the press. Average and unfinished items were poorly received.
The press thinks it’s bad
In the Metacritic rankings, the 3D brawler Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash occupies the last place, which, however, means “only” an average score of 44 points. However, specifically in the “hit list” of bad games from North America, this is only enough for fifth place.
Food Truck Simulator, the horror adventure HappyFunland for PSVR2 and the mobile action game Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat, which is full of microtransactions, are ahead of them in this “lower ranking”. However, the best in North America is Utopia City for PC. This isn’t surprising: the shooter was actually released to the rest of the world in 2006 and even then it was only average. Needless to say, 18 years later he’s ranked half as good as the next worst game with 22 points.

In the following places in the world ranking are unknown and never heard of titles as well as some licensed cucumbers: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants and Funko Fusion are intended to exploit brand awareness, but fail at all to be average.
Gamers have already heard at least one name throughout the year: Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown was supposed to continue the series of open-world racing games, but failed due to technology and ambition – it is surpassed in terms of quality by Forza Horizon and Co. Silent Hill: The Short Message is also mentioned in the list. However, the horror game doesn’t really belong on the list: it was designed as a trial balloon to evaluate how the Silent Hill brand can be continued and is available for free.

However, among users, Utopia City, the game least rated by the press, still occupies 10th place with 2.4 points out of 10. In front of it, big names rub shoulders with little-known and forgettable niche titles. EA Sports FC 25 performs a little worse in the rankings. There are criticisms of gameplay, lack of innovation and bugs, but the increased focus on microtransactions does not play a major role. The Star Wars: Battlefront Classic collection is also listed. Server problems and bugs, but above all the high price combined with some advantages compared to the significantly cheaper original games, bring the rating down.
Sony’s team-based shooter Concord, which was canceled after just a few days, deserves a mention. The title wasn’t criticized, it was just so boring and uninteresting that it was ignored – on PC shortly after release, 600 concurrent players was the sad peak of success. Even a few days of operation were enough for the shooter to get 1.7 points.
This is what Steam users are saying
The Remastered Star Wars shooters are ranked 10th among the worst games of all time on Steam. After that, the famous names of 2024 will only be found behind the scenes. Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown is in 31st place, the 3D strategy game Homeworld 3 (test) is in 50th place, which is currently due to the discontinuation of support and the reduced roadmap in combination with the Frequently used attribute “unfinished”. Next comes Flight Simulator 2024 in 65th place. Criticisms regarding career mode and bugs, particularly crashes, are expressed here. The bumpy start also brought the rating down.
There have been enough average, uninspired games that have fallen behind the expected success due to lack of enthusiasm. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which even failed when announced, or the “AAAA” MMO Skull and Bones (test), as well as Concord, are proof that the past year of gaming has certainly not been extremely bad, but also poor in strong moments.
