Threadripper (Pro) 9000: Preparations Begin for AMD
Calpex 2025 and AMD’s AI Day 2025 are just around the corner, where the company could also reveal a Threadripper in a new generation of 9000s. Gigabyte and ASUS have more than just the first hints for their flagship motherboards; accordingly, BIOS updates and product descriptions have already been updated.
ASUS is publishing the strongest hints of the Sage Pro WS TRX50 WiFi through adapted product descriptions. As a result, the flagship motherboard will also be able to support the Threadripper Pro 9000 WX and Threadripper 9000, which should once again offer up to 96 cores.
This information coincides with the models already known. AMD will therefore update its entire portfolio and make it suitable for use in existing systems.

The Ryzen Threadripper Pro 9965WX is said to be the successor to the Ryzen Threadripper Pro 7965X with its 24 cores. The models have already been specified with 350 watts and the STR50 base. In this respect, there would be no changes to the predecessors of the Storm Peak family. BIOS updates could guarantee use in existing mainboards, at least according to the assumptions.

A few days earlier, Gigabyte had already released BIOS updates on April 24, which promised support for the new processors on the platform around the STRX5 socket. With the AGESA code, the name AMD STP-AGESA 1.1.0.0 is renamed AMD SHP-AGESA 1.0.0.0, which also reveals the code names: Storm Peak (STP) becomes Shimada Peak (SHP), which stands for Threadripper 7000 and Threadripper 9000.

Start for Calpex 2025 or AMDS AID
A start date for Computex 2025 would also be offered for the Threadripper family, which AMD is also holding a press conference on May 21. Many years ago, it was the birthplace of the first Threadripper processors. TechAstuce was there in recent years, 2017. Since the AI event could also be used as a platform for the workstation segment later on. It remains to be seen whether some enthusiasts’ dreams of having thread-through like X3D will come true. This has been found in the manuals of some mainboards for years, such as ASUS (PDF document, page 92). More recently, AMD had strictly separated and explicitly reserved it for EPYC; so far, there has been no noticeable softening of it.
