An unusual mini-PC is looking for sponsors on Kickstarter. Once unfolded, it takes the form of a keyboard. Inside is AMD Hawk Point-based PC technology in the form of the Ryzen 7 8840U “Hawk Point”.
The idea behind the Lunar Mini-PC is a portable mini-PC that comes with a keyboard. When folded the device measures 15.5cm × 11cm × 3cm (L × W × H), when unfolded it creates a keyboard measuring 29cm × 11cm × 1.5cm (L × W × H), which also has a small touchpad like on a laptop. Thanks to the integrated battery, WLAN and Bluetooth, the mini PC can be operated wirelessly. The weight is 800 grams.

Inside there is more of AMD’s current laptop technology in the form of the Ryzen 7 8840U, an 8-core processor up to 5.1 GHz and an integrated Radeon 780M with a normal TDP 28 watts. This is supported by 16GB or 32GB LPDDR5X. Although there is now a “successor” in Strix Point, AMD has positioned the two previously available variants of this series above the Hawk Point variants in terms of price.
An M.2 SSD with PCIe 4.0 and 512 GB or 1 TB of storage volume serves as mass storage. The connections are USB4 with Type C connector, USB3.2 with Type C connector and USB 3.0 with Type A connector.

With light everyday workloads, the 59.2 watt-hour battery should provide 8 to 10 hours of battery life. The keyboard features scissor switches with 1.2mm travel. WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 are the supported wireless standards. TDP and fan speed can be adjusted individually via software.
Sell via Kickstarter
The Lunar Mini PC crowdfunding Kickstarter campaign was recently launched, with 400 units already produced and shipped for beta testers. Worldwide availability is expected in January 2025. Fans willing to take a risk can get the mini PC with a pre-order discount. Regular prices are the equivalent of $699 for the version with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD and $849 for 32 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD.
