Memoriapolis: The Organic Building Game with Five Eras Released
1 comment
The historical building game Memoriapolis was released in version 1.0 on Steam today. After approximately eight months of Early Access, the French studio at 17h is wrapping up development with a visual overhaul, the Industrial Revolution in the fifth and final ERA, and new endgame mechanics.
Urban planning spanning over 2,500 years and without a raster system
Memoriapolis combines a classic urban development strategy with long-term development across five eras: Antiquity, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and new with version 1.0 and the Industrial Revolution. Each phase features not only architecture and technology, but also social challenges, political structures, and dilemmas. The goal is to maintain your own dynasty in power throughout all the ages.

This system was developed in collaboration with a city planner and, according to the developers, is intended to enable more realistic urban development. Among other things, it takes into account topography, the range of supply patterns, and population movement—this creates tramp paths, for example, which develop into permanent roads with increasing use. Buildings automatically adapt to the terrain and neighboring structures, which should allow for the design of vibrant neighborhoods.
The game automatically progresses through fixed cycles from era to era. If you play particularly efficiently, you can advance early and receive an excess of bonuses. Each age offers a new dynasty path, for example, as a dealer, politician, or philosopher—including special bonuses. Buildings also change depending on how long they are maintained and influence their surroundings over several ages.
Thus, the summoned healing points allow for the preservation or reactivation of districts over time—otherwise, ruins can arise, which can sometimes be strategically useful, but can also be permanently lost. With version 1.0, the game also receives a visual overhaul. New building models, improved lighting, and a modernized user interface should deepen the game’s atmosphere. The design of previous eras has also been revised. According to the developer, many of these adjustments are based on community feedback.
With the fourth and new eras of the fifth, the game is expected to become more focused. External factions are increasingly trying to gain influence in the city. Players must act diplomatically, verify alliances, and ensure the survival of their dynasty, the developers announce. At the same time, the demands on resource management, production logistics, and trade networks are increasing.

Furthermore, the tree mechanics have been expanded: players can now change the building and density in existing districts to upgrade structures without tearing everything down. There was also an overhaul—new models, a simplified graphic style, and a completely revised user interface should improve the game’s readability and aesthetics.
Positive response in eight months of Early Access
Since the start of the Early Access phase in summer 2024, Memoriapolis has landed on the wishlist of over 400,000 Steam users, according to the developers. New eras, buildings, events, and management systems have been integrated into regular updates. Reviews were mostly positive in Early Access, and there’s an 80% approval rating on Steam. Additional content is also planned after the official release, including additional buildings, faction mechanics, and extended modding support.
